Zionsville is a small town in central Indiana. The population was 5,716 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Zionsville is located on the eastern edge of the former Harrison County and has been annexed by Terre Haute since 2003. The first settler in what is now Zionsville was James Hargrave, who arrived in 1799. He named his new land for Samuel Ziegler, one of his friends from England who had come to America to find a better life. Soon after, other settlers began arriving, and by 1811 Zionsville had grown to include three churches and fifty-six residents. By 1812 there were also two schools—one for boys and one for girls—and a post office was established that year. In 1817, Horace Mann purchased 640 acres (2 km²) of land northeast of present-day Zionsville from James Hargrave in order to build a home he called Mann’s Grove which he named after himself and his wife Emma (née Carpenter). Mann would later become an American statesman and Ulysses S. Grant’s mentor during Reconstruction in America. The town grew rapidly thereafter as more people came to live here; by 1830 it had over 1,000 residents and twenty churches. In 1835–36 plans were made to move the village center due to its distance from industry but this idea was abandoned when it became clear that the town could not support such an endeavor alone. In 1868–69 construction began on what would eventually become Market Street; at that time it was one of only two streets in downtown Terre Haute with asphalt instead of dirt or cobblestone because $1 per barrel ($30 million worth then)/$3 per ton gave rise to a large amount of profits for various businesses located along Market Street including several breweries which together produced over 100 million gallons (3 million liters) of beer each year! One reason why Market Street remains an important artery today is because it served as both primary commercial thoroughfare as well as transportation route between downtown Terre Haute and all surrounding farmssteads until railroads arrived uponTerreHaute in the early 20th century RG Wagon Company #1 hauled coal down Market Street during WW I RG Wagon Company #2 hauled lumber down Market Street during World War II

Zionsville is a small town in the southwestern corner of Indiana, United States. The population was 1,245 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Zionsville were French traders who came in 1776 and found deer, turkey, and other game on the banks of the White River. European settlement began with Swiss immigrants who founded a trading post nearpresent-day Zionsville in 1814. In 1825, English settlers arrived from Lancaster County and built a log schoolhouse there. The post office was established at Zionsville in 1827; it was discontinued in 1837 because of difficulties getting mail to distant settlements. The first store opened at Zionsville in 1830. A flour mill was started by John Haines in 1840; it ceased operations in 1862. A gristmill was started by James Sieving about 1870; it continued operation until 1915. A sawmill operated from 1865 to 1889; it closed down due to financial problems. A coal mine opened at Zionsville about 1897; it closed down around 1916 due to pollution issues. Zionsville started as an agricultural village when land for farming purposes were surveyed near present-day town limits on October 21, 1901 by Jens Rasmussen withdrawn from central Knob Creek Township (now Union Township). Rasmussen had purchased some 160 acres (65 hectares) adjacent to what would later become town limits from John Muhlenberg, Sr., one of Knob Creek's founders. On July 29, 1902, vecinos voted not to incorporate as a village but instead create an assessor/mayoralty government under which residents would pay taxes levied against them by the township level government responsible for public works such as streetlights and water systems. This system continued through annexation by Plainfield Township on February 3, 1912 following a referendum that also resulted in no vote for incorporation into any other municipality outside of Knob Creek Township proper - effectively ending villagehood within our own borders!
