The community created several jobs related to coffee production, such as roasters and bean farmers. During this time, coffeehouses began popping up all over town – not only did they serve delicious cups of joe, but they also helped to promote economic development within the community. In 1949, Hinterland Coffee Company merged with another German-owned company to form Brown & Williamson Limited. This new company became one of America's leading espresso companies – their roastit beans were exported all over the world! In 1892 Virgil Aiken founded The Aiken Press which published books about Indian culture and history until it went bankrupt in 1925; then again from 1948 until its closure in 1984; finally it resumed publication starting with volumes 1-5 (1986-1990) by Bob McCloskey who has been publisher since 1997 In 1907 Huntington voters passed a resolution calling for annexation of neighboring Posey County because they felt that Posey County had not done enough to support the city’s growth during the previous decade The motion failed but this did not stop locals from trying to get more money spent on their behalf In 1912 Mayor John Davenport spearheaded a drive to rename some streets after prominent citizens or causes such as President Woodrow Wilson or General Pershing This campaign eventually succeeded and downtown Huntington became known as "Plain Jane Avenue" after Mrs. J.D.' (Jimmie Dean) Whitman who sponsored the bill In 1924–1925 Clarence McKinney served as mayor pro tem while also serving as president of Purdue University After McKinney left office he was succeeded by Wm Epps who served two terms before being replaced by Harry Byrd Jr., later U.S Ambassador to Cuba Thereafter the city refused annexation requests until 1959 when it finally joined Indianapolis proper

Huntington is a town in the U.S. state of Indiana, located on the north side of the state's capital, Indianapolis. The population was 26,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville–Purdue University Metropolitan Statistical Area. Huntington was founded in 1824 as a small village on land donated by George Washington and Aaron Burr. The town grew rapidly due to its location near what is now called "The Loop" and its access to transportation including a branch of the Erie Canal that connected it with other towns in central Indiana. In 1836, Huntington became one of five original towns in Evansville Township when that township was formed from parts of Posey County and Randolph Township. The town remained an agricultural center until after World War II when industry replaced agriculture as its mainstay. During World War II, Huntington produced more than 1 million pounds (500,000 kg) of aircraft materials used by allies such as Japan and Great Britain during their campaigns in Europe and Asia; Hungary also contributed some materiel to allied forces during that conflict. After the war ended, manufacturing dwindled because most jobs for those who had worked in aviation were gone; however, some new businesses began up around thetown such as A&P Grocery Store which opened in 1948 followed by Radio Corporation International (RCI) later becoming known as Burger King set up shop here too In recent years much redevelopment has occurred around downtown Newport Drive which has brought about increased pedestrian traffic along Route 56 which runs through Downtown Newport Drive giving it a modern feel . Development also took place along Interstate 465 just east of Downtown Newport Drive making it easy access to all types of businesses . Some negative aspects have been seen recently with construction being done near several schools resulting in decreased school attendance ratings but this could be resolved with proper zoning
Huntington, Indiana was once part of the United States of America. The area was first settled in 1813 by a group of Englishmen who named their new town Huntington after the then-recently founded British colony of Huntington on Long Island. It wasn't until 1838 that the town's name changed to Huntington Beach when it became a beach community. In 1916, the city annexed what is now neighboring Elkhart County and Watertown became its second city. On July 5, 1920, the city merged with Elkhart County to form a new City of Elkhart combined government. On December 1, 1924, the City of Elkhart combined with Clinton Township to form Clinton Township incorporated as an independent municipality within Intercounty Municipal Government #2 (ICMG 2). The City of Elkhart lost its status as an ICMG 2 municipality on January 1, 1925.
