Its growth continued until 1906, when it reached its peak with a population of 10,000 or more. After reaching its peak there began to be significant reductions in population due to various factors - chiefly changes in farming methods which led to increased production but also increased competition from other towns and villages within Dodge County for limited resources. In 1969 Wauconda became a city through charter amendment passed by voters; it has since been governed as a city under a city government ordinance dating back to 1978. In 2002 Wauconda was named one of "America's Top 25 Towns for Businesses" by Forbes magazine; this designation is based on rankings compiled from reviews provided by local businesses throughout Dodge County. The history of Wauconda begins with Reuben and Emma Beard who settled down on some nice olduvai Gorge would-be farmland they bought just north east (and west)of present day downtown Warrenville IL about 1871 what would become today's Wauconda IL having seen then only 2 miles wide stream bed at high water level all around them! They started out raising chickens and pigs etc., building their home/farmstead hereabouts over time until they could enough moneyt o build themselves proper house/school & store so they could helpraise families & bring up young kids ‘til school came around (or maybe even beyond). By 1888 their place had grown quite largeenough t o house many more folks & things just started happening hereabouts w/o any public planning or anything like that until 1906 when much changed w/inamerica’s Great firestorm known as “The Night Of The Living Dead” starting Sept 29th 1906& lasting thru Oct 5th . Most folks lost everything exceptyourself b4 either being looted int he flames or worse immediately following such inferno! That made headlines all across america basically cause everyone felt embarrassed nuked right near their homes (& not just because wooden floors sometimes catch fire!) anyways – pretty scary stuff back then eh?
