The first store opened in 1834 on North Side Road between State and First Streets. In 1845, a post office was established at Tinley Park with A.C. Phelps as its first mail carrier. By 1870, there were nine stores in tinley park with one flour mill producing flour for local markets and six blacksmiths servicing the town's needs for horseshoes, nails, screws and other metal work; also two schools were open: one kindergarten (1892) and one high school (1912). In 1912-14 two new elementary schools were constructed: Woodside Elementary School (now known as Villa Stritch Elementary School) on Euclid Avenue west of State Street and Our Lady Of Angels Catholic Elementary School on North Side Road east of Woodside Avenue; both schools are now closed but their land is still used for religious purposes by several churches within walking distance including Immaculate Conception Parish Church located along Northwest Highway 422 immediately across from Villa Stritch Elementary School; Holy Name Parish Church located next to Our Lady Of Angels Catholic Elementary School on Northwest Highway 422 just south of state street adjacent to Immaculate Conception Parish Church; Blessed Sacrament Parish Church located near Resurrection Cemetery off Pulaski Road east of state street adjacent to Blessed Sacrament Parish Church It should be noted that all these names remain current even though some buildings have been replaced over time due mainly to changing uses or urban growth - such as Immaculate Conception parish church which moved from its original location next door to Our Lady Of Angels parish church after being built on what had been then only ground level commercial real estate developer parking lot behind Yep Rococo bar & Grill - although you can still see the old building from Google Earth if you look carefully! A new Flour Mill was built by John Cavanaugh around 1915-16 replacing an earlier mill which caught fire due to sparks flying out during production that year (see below). When this mill caught fire it destroyed much valuable records inside so no detailed account survives but according to oral history many people thought it was caused by arson because very few witnesses came forward when questioned about it years later . This particular mill continued making flour until 1927 when it burned down again leaving evidence all throughout its structure like beams left burning raw which would confirm an arson attack had taken place! The riverside village soon grew into an important stopping point for fugitive slaves escaping slave catchers and other traffic along the Underground Railroad. On November 10, 1847 – just two years after its founding – tinkerers Nicholas Pappus and John Jacob Astor donated land within today's boundaries for future development as tinkerer's row – or "tin alley". This early commercial center attracted families from nearby Evanston (now Chicago) because it had easy access to local waterways and good transportation connections via steamboats or wagons drawn by horses across the Des Plaines River to points eastward on Lake Michigan.
