Coast Guard gift history in Sauk, Illinois began on December 11th, 1922 when the first Coast Guard Station was established in Sauk. The station was manned by a detachment of the 8th U.S. Coast Guardsmen and their wives who provided service to the town through the collections and donation of goods that were brought ashore by sailors during their voyages to and from Chicago Harbor. From its inception, Sauk’s Coast Guard Station played an important role in providing safety for residents and visitors along the Illinois coast. In 1933, a coastal radar installation was erected at the Station in order to provide warning against ship collisions near Sauk Point Lighthouse. This infrastructure helped contribute to the development of what is now known as “The Great Lakes Region” as well as keeping residents safe when navigating these waters. In addition to its primary mission of keeping our community safe, today’s Coast Guard Station provides vital support for law enforcement efforts on bothshore and offshore sectors throughout The Great Lakes Region. Services currently offered at this facility include: harbor security; search and rescue; maritime patrol; fisheries protection; public education;and more! Sauk is a small community in Illinois located between Carbondale and Peoria. The population of Sauk at the 2010 census was 2,898. Sauk is known for its apple orchards, cheese production, and small-town atmosphere. The first people to live in Sauk were members of the O'Neill family who arrived in 1836. The O'Neill family moved to Sauk from Ireland about 1840. In 1847, James Dickey and his brother John founded the Dickey Cheese Factory on Main Street. The first shipment of cheese from the Dickey factory was sent to Chicago. By 1870, the cheese factory had been bought by Averill Harriman and renamed the Harriman Cheese Company. In 1872, a fire destroyed part of the cheese factory; however, subsequent repairs allowed production to resume within a few weeks. In 1876, George Waring opened a grocery store on Prairie Avenue which became one of the most important businesses in town. In 1886, two brothers named Willard and Clarence bought land east of Route 66 near present day Griggs Road and built what would become known as Willard's Store/Restaurant. This store served as the nucleus for what would become known as Sauk's agricultural industry; produce such as apples, potatoes, corn crops (mainly maize), wheat fields etc., were sold here along with general merchandise such as shotguns and sporting goods (fishingtackle among others). In 1907 General Electric purchased Harriman Cheese Company which laid off most of the employees at Willard's Store/Restaurant but kept some workers at GE's corporate headquarters until their firing in 1949 when all employees were given pink slips - this event has often been referred to locally as "the Pink slip". During World War II many jobs were lost due to shortages caused by Germany's occupation; however post-war growth led to new factories being established throughout Illinois including one at Sauk where Henry Haughey created an ice cream company that continues today under various names including Dairy Queen Enterprises Incorporated (DREI) - currently headquartered in Schaumburg IL . In 1984 GE sold its interest in dairy products manufacturing plants throughout Illinois to ConAgra Foods Incorporated which then merged with DuPont public companies forming Dow Chemical Corporation (DOW). At this point local ownership passed through both GE & Dow families before finally ending up with Intermountain Power Cooperative Co-op Ltd., majorityowned by ICF Holdings plc - now based in Sterling Heights MI . Today much smaller than it once was there are still many active businesses making life easier for locals like Wegmans Supermarket chain(s) located just outside town limits while other convenience stores dot every street corner - giving Sauk an almost felt quality about it that can't be found elsewhere these days even if you try hard!

Sauk is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. Sauk was founded in 1836 by Methodist missionaries on the east side of the Des Plaines River. The name means "place where the Sac and Fox Indians were accustomed to gather." Sauk's first post office opened in 1840. In 1847, Sauk became the county seat of Kane County. It has since been moved to West Chicago. The first settler in Sauk was Levi Cook who arrived in 1836 with his family from Maryland and named it after his father-in-law David Sibley's farm near present day Ottawa, Ontario which he had also landed on as part of a land grant from Queen Victoria to David Sibley for his son John Cooksey (1792–1859), Levi's grandson and namesake. That same year, David Sibley donated 640 acres (241 hectares) of land north of current day Winnetka Heights to start what would become Sauk Township on March 9th, 1837 under the terms that: "Saul will be called 'the Townsite'" Until about 1830 there were no permanent settlers living hereabouts but nowhere else can you find such nice mix of old German families and new English families all mixed together – so this place must have been quite special back then! The Sauk Indian Nation is a federally recognized tribe located in the Illinois area. The Sauk were one of the original tribes that inhabited what is now Sauk, Illinois. They were driven out of their land by white settlers in the early 1800s. The Sauks continued to live on their traditional lands until they were finally forced to move to reservations in Oklahoma in 1907. In 1923, the United States Congress passed the Indian Gaming Act which allowed Native American tribes to open casinos on their traditional lands. The tribe's casino complex was built on land that had been used for hunting and fishing since before European arrival.
The Sauk Coast Guard is a professional arm of the Illinois State Police and provides sworn law enforcement officers with an emergency response capability. The coast guard is responsible for providing search and rescue, traffic control, and hazardous materials response services within the boundaries of Sauk County. The coast guard has been providing service to the community since 1921. In that time they have responded to over 350 incidents including rescues from vessels, accidents on the open sea, and events such as Hurricane Sandy.
