Smith and his crew of the USS Enterprise on July 9, 1847 when they brought a shipment of fresh water from Cuba to Chicago. The ship's owner, Ewing G. Cooke, soon became interested in the source of the water and purchased the Enterprise for $5,000. In 1889, Rear Admiral William J. Halsey commissioned USS Constitution (LHD-7) as a flagship for his Northwest Patrol Squadron during World War I. In 1929, Commodore Arthur Wickersham commissioned USS Constitution II (LHD-8) into service as an auxiliary cruiser in the USNR. That same year, Commodore George Cushing commissioned USS Missouri (BB-63) into service as an escort carrier in the USNRC. Romeoville is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockford covers Romeoville and all of Addison Township within its boundaries. The village was founded by Catholics in 1853 as an outpost on the banks of the Fox River in what is now Addison Township. In 1865, it became a separate parish with jurisdiction over all of Addison Township east of I-55 and north of State Road 61. In 1868, Romeoville became the seat for Addison Township when Father John Dolan moved his academy from Lombard to Romeoville to take advantage of tax breaks given to new townships formed around Cook County during the mid-1860s. In 1903, Pope Saint Pius X assigned Romeoville to the newly created Archdiocese of Rockford – one of only two such assignments made statewide that year – following approval by Bishop John McCloskey. The first bishopric was divided into two parts in 1906: Romeoville Cathedral went to Revocation Parish in Aurora while Holy Cross Parish near Downers Grove took over responsibility for both Addison and Cicero parishes west of I-105. Pope Benedict XVI transferred ownership and managementof Holy Cross Parish back to Rockford on 1 January 2009 after appointing Msgr.(Dr.) Ignazio Marino as its first pastor emeritus effective 12 February 2008 due to his death aged 83 years old; he had been serving as interim pastor since then.
