The United States Air Force has been providing air support to the American people since World War II. The USAF was founded in 1947 and is one of the most diverse organizations in the world. Today, the USAF operates more than 2,000 bases around the world, with a primary mission to protect America's citizens and interests abroad. One of the USAF's earliest assets was fighter planes. The Wright brothers developed their first flying machine in 1903 and made it available for military use in 1911. With advances in technology, such as jet aircraft development during World War II, fighters became an important part of US air forces. From 1941 to 1945, Allied bombers destroyed over 1 million German targets with RAF Bomber Command alone. During World War II, American pilots flew over 675 different types of airplanes including Douglas DC-3s, Lockheed P-38 Lightning jets, Boeing B-29 Superfortresses and Northrop P-47 Thunderbolt fighters; making them some of the most famous flyers on Earth at that time. In addition to aerial combat operations against Nazi Germany and Japan respectively, American forces also fought on ground theaters including Sicily (Operation Husky), Normandy ( Operation Overlord), China (the Battle of Wanjialing) and Russia (the Battle of Stalingrad). During this time period there were countless other contributions by American servicemen such as intelligence gathering and supply gathering through airborne reconnaissance programs or door entry into enemy territory via parachute drops or submarine infiltration depths for sabotage missions. In 1945 America had its defeat at Yalta when Japan capitulated which led to World War III along with many similar sacrifices being made across Europe and Asia by both sides while millions were displaced within those regions as a result of war enmity only to see these same lands become home again after years of displacement once again began throughout history! It is truly amazing what our country can accomplish when united under one banner!

Pontiac, Illinois is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,023 at the 2010 census. Pontiac is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It borders the towns of Elk Grove Village and Lombard and has a total area of 18 square miles (47 km²). Pontiac was founded in 1837 by John Pemberton and his family. It became a general settlement in 1841 when it was made an incorporated village under the name of Pontiac. The first post office was established in Pontiac on July 12, 1841. The present day courthouse building was built in 1888. The village had 1 store and 6 homes when it merged with Lombard in 1911 to form Pontiac-Lombard-Ekgrove Township which had 8 stores and 50 homes. In 1912, the township annexed parts of neighboring Lombard Township including parts of what are now Elgin Heights and Elmhurst Park neighborhoods on the east side of Michigan Avenue between State Street and Grand River Avenue. On December 15, 1958, portions of Pontiac were annexed into nearby Highland Park as part of that city's attempt to annex all its rural areas north of Cook County line without considering input from residents or referendums. In recent years there has been much discussion about moving Pontiac closer to Chicago as its economic vitality has declines while other towns within Kane County have seen growth due to new businesses being opened there such as Steel Valley LLC which produces metal products using advanced automation processes outside the country near Joliet IL

In 1955, the USAAF celebrated its centennial with a series of grand ceremonies. A gift from President Eisenhower was made to the USAF on December 3rd. Pontiac is a small town in Illinois, United States. The population was 8,898 at the 2010 census. Pontiac is located on the border of Cook County and DuPage County. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name "Pontiac" comes from French for "bridge over the river," likely inspired by its location on a strategic spot between two rivers. The first settler in Pontiac was John Pemberton, who arrived in 1803. By 1809, there were 11 settlers living in Pontiac Township. A post office was established at Pontiac in 1827, and by 1830, it hadsend 100 letters a year. In 1834, John Augustus Chilton bought 640 acres (248 hectares) of land around present-day Pontiac to establish what would become Chilton Park Golf Course; he donated it to the township for use as public land In 1847, Abraham Lincoln made his first campaign stop in this area when he visited with members of the Buick Manufacturing Company at their plant east of downtown Chicago. During his presidency (1849-1865), Lincoln traveled frequently across Illinois to appearances at various businesses and meetings throughout that region including stops at Pontiac and other nearby towns In 1865, after years of negotiation led by General Motors president George Witte and then-local congressman Samuel Janklowe, an agreement was reached between GM and Ford Motor Company under which those companies would merge into one company called American Motors Corporation (AMC). The merger helped create one of America's largest companies with more than $50 billion in assets as of 2018 By 1948, AMC had merged with Ford Motor Company to form Henry Ford II's new company - once again an amalgamation led by George Witte - bringing backPontiac into GM's fold The community experienced significantindustrial development during World War II because many GM plants were built there such as Gurney’s Machine Works (1941-1945), Krupp Paper Products Co.(1944), Hormel Foods Inc.(1945), Chrysler Corporation(1948) and Bechtel & Costello Inc.(1950). At times much industrial activity took place near or right outside homes as workers built Lockheed PT6 nerve gas production facilities just south of town along I–294; also a number of shipyards were developed adjacent to the riverbank including Northdown Shipbuilding Corp., which produced Liberty Ships while O'Neill Shipbuilding did hull conversions for Ulysses S Grant class destroyers . For many people their neighborhood became known simply as "the war zone." Many factories closed down either during or immediately after World War II due largely to lack of demand following victory over fascism
