Northlake is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,236 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Northlake is located on the north side of Cook County and on the border of Lake Michigan to the east. The town was platted in 1892 by George Hargrave and named after Northlake, Ontario, Canada. Northlake became a village in 1903 and a town in 1912. The current name was given to the community by its postmaster, John A. Hargrave Jr., who wanted to give it an Old World feel despite its location on the American side of Lake Michigan. In July 2007, Northlake became one of twelve towns in Illinois to receive $10 million from Governor Pat Quinn for infrastructure improvements that will improve education, job opportunities and traffic flow through the community. According to the 2010 census,[1] 24% of residents are multilingual English speakers (up from 17% at 2000), while 22% are Spanish-speaking immigrants or their descendants (down from 30% at 2000). Northlake, Illinois is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Northlake was founded in 1868 by John Mellon and his family. The first post office in Northlake was established in 1870. Northlake has a Baptist church and a high school that serves students from grades 9-12. The city of Northlake was incorporated on July 29, 1902 by an act of the Illinois General Assembly. At its incorporation it had a population of 191 people; however, within one year its population had grown to 499 residents due to growth in surrounding rural areas as well as annexation by neighboring townships (including South Elgin). On December 3, 1903, the city name change from "North Lake" to "Northville". On November 5, 1907 the city name change again from "Northville" to "Northlake". In 1916 NorthLake became an independent municipality under state law with its own government and police department. In 1951-1953 Northwestern Illinois State University operated two campuses located adjacent to each other on Honeoye Drive in north central town - one for men and one for women - which caused much stir among residents who were unable to attend their respective schools but still considered themselves part of the same community because they shared streets and water supplies etc.. After years of requests by university officials and citizens living on or near the campuses for land adjoining their homes so that they could build more permanent buildings on those sites (and eventually create what would become known as Northwestern Illinios State University Park), a deed was filed with Cook County Circuit Court on October 22nd 1959 providing 640 acres east of Honeoye Drive between Elmwood Road and Racine Avenue for use as “Airlines Field” or “University Campus Extension” – later renamed simply “State University Park” after Northwestern Illinois State University accepted full membership into the Association of American Universities (AAU) – making NorthLake one of only five cities/townships in Cook County nots having an AAU campus at that time! Today there are over 20 buildings on State University Park including eight dormitories serving 1,500 undergraduate students plus faculty/staff housing; athletics facilities including a football stadium/practice fields; three libraries; four restaurants/bars; two health clinics; two radio stations (KQED-FM & WLNK-AM); five corporate headquarters buildings: Litton Paper Products plant building now home to Caterpillar Inc., Verizon Business Solutions Building now home to Motorola Solutions Inc., Stone Mountain Airstream Company Headquarters Building now home Toomey Tire & Rubber Co., former Litton Paper Products Plant building now home to Sears Holdings Corporation As stewardess during my final days I want you all know how grateful I am that we have these great opportunities like this our children can grow up knowing there is hope no matter what life throws your way...
