When the Northlake Air National Guard Base opened in 1949, it was one of the first military installations in Illinois. The base housed a squadron of Boeing B-29 Superfortresses, which were used to fly strategic photos and reconnaissance missions over the city during World War II. In 1951, Northlake became home to the 4th Bombardment Wing, which was responsible for carrying out strategic bombing raids against Japan. The wing operated from Douglas DC-3s and Boeing RB-47es until its closure in 1991. The Base also played an important role during the Cold War. It hosted three Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (SAR) sites: Joint Operations Facility (JOF), Missile Range Facility (MRF), and Ballistic Missile Weapons Storage Site (BMWS). Additionally, Northlake served as a United States airfield for NATO's Tornado fighter jets during their deployments to Europe and Asia. Since its closure, many memories have been left behind at Northlake AFB. Some of these include: hosting the annual Illinois State Fair; playing host to various international events such as NATO summits; serving as a training ground for local law enforcement officers; and being home to two RFC helicopter squadrons – one that flew transport helicopters into battle during Operation Desert Storm and another that participated in humanitarian relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. Despite all of these memories, however, one aspect of Northlake AFB that still garners attention is its deployment history with Air Force gifted items. This history can be traced back to when the Base opened in 1949 and has continued through present day activities including occasional visits by visiting generals or presidents who have visited Illinois or made speeches at Northlake AFB! Northlake, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 23,923 at the 2010 census. Northlake is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is one of the most ethnically diverse towns in Illinois. The first people to live in what is now Northlake were hunters and gatherers who hunted game around present day Crystal Lake and other areas on the south side of the Chicago River. European settlement began with families from Geneva (now Arlington Heights) moving to this area in 1835. The first store was opened by Captain John Kinzie at what is now Lincoln Avenue and West Harrison Street. A two-story frame structure with a sod roof was erected on this site in 1839 by Jotham Copley as “Norton”s Store. In 1840 Abraham Lincoln visited this community while campaigning for office and spoke on behalf of its citizens in front of Kinzie’s store. In 1842 Benjamin Rush set up shop here as a druggist/ apothecary/pharmacist with two stores and moved his business to Downers Grove soon after (northwest corner of Dearborn & Western). In 1847 Nathaniel Hawthorne lived for some time near Northlake before moving to Aurora, Illinois In 1850 Rev Doctor George Washington Woodruff established an academy here which became known as “Woodruff Normal School” also serving as a hospital during times of war or natural disasters like the1857 Chicago fire In 1860 Priscilla Baer founded Baer's Clothing Store on Wabash Avenue north east corner lot next door to City Hall In 1865 Mr & Mrs Hanks started farming land east side of Kedzie Road between Columbia Street & South Water Street In 1870 Mrs Baer sold her farmstead including house and barn etc., back to Mr Hanks who platted it into Lots 2&3 thereinnamed In 1880 Charles Potter started raising chickens here which he continued until 1896 when he moved his operation off limits to Butchertown due to competition from hatcheries operated by Mayor Richard Molineux & others Thereafter increased production such as egg laying commenced by local woman named Ethel Willoughby Potter later that decade using adobe buildings she built along Clearbrook Drive thenceforth known simply as "Potter's Place" Mrs Potters descendants continue operations there today . By 1902 all Potter operations were discontinued except for factorial grading done at home during that period . From about 1905 thru 1916 various businesses used raspberry bushes growing thereon for hatching eggs prior to selling them wholesale through various channels

Northlake is a town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 8,528 at the 2010 census. Northlake was laid out in 1868 by George A. Stephenson and named after the English village of Northleach, which Stephenson had visited while on a railroad construction trip to Indiana. In 1875, the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railway constructed its line through Northlake and renamed it "Northlake". The town became part of Chicago in 1896. It lost its city status in 2002. The first settler in what is now Northlake was John Fenton who arrived there from Hardwick Township on November 15, 1868. He built a cabin near the junction of La Salle and DeKalb Streets. Fenton's cabin is still standing today as part of the current community center complex located off La Salle Street between Garfield Boulevard and Sheridan Road. John Garton came to Northlake about July 1st, 1870 with his family from Rochester Township (now Elmhurst). His family set up shop on Racine Avenue east of)the present day Community Center Complex/High school football field where they lived until their own death around 1915 when their youngest son passed away young at age 33 years old while working for American Can Co./NHL team Blackhawksummersville HS
The city of Northlake, Illinois was founded in 1839 by the brothers John and Samuel North. The town was named for General Anthony Wayne, who helped lead the United States army during the Mexican-American War. The Norths first store opened in 1841. In addition to their business, the Norths were also early farmers and dealers in flour, livestock, lumber, pork chops and other goods. The town grew rapidly around its two churches and a public school. By 1860, Northlake had a population of over 500 people. In 1861, Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States and later called Northlake "the Capital of His Administration." During his time as President, Lincoln made several visits to Illinois including a stop in Northlake on November 11th (the day after his inauguration). After Lincoln's visit, more businesses began opening up inNorthlake thanks to increased trade with adjacent states. In 1865, Union General Ulysses S. Grant took control of all of Missouri after that state seceded from the United States following its defeat at the Battle of Wilson's Creek (also known as Pea Ridge). As part of his plan to take control of resources such as cotton fields throughout Missouri Central Command (MCC), Grant sent troops into Illinois to occupy towns along the Mississippi River Valley including Northlake. For this purpose he ordered Major General James Biddle to march northward from Hannibal through Springfield into northern Illinois
