The United States Navy has been deployed in many different ways throughout its history. Some of these deployments have been in support of the War on Terror, others have been more comedic or ceremonial. Regardless of the deployment, one constant has been the Navy giving back to their community. The North Aurora Naval Surface Warfare Center (NAVWC), located within the city limits, is no different. Since its establishment in 1967, NAVWC has played a critical role in providing sailors and Marines with the latest technology and equipment while also serving as a training ground for future naval officers. This wide-ranging mission is made possible by the generous donations from local businesses and citizens alike. In fiscal year 2014, NAVWC received $5 million in donations from individuals and businesses within our city limits alone! One such donation was made to NAVWC by Jerry Giannini of Giannini's Pizza Place.Jerry donated $1 million to help fund several upgrades and expansions at NAVWC including new barracks, an air conditioned hangar, an exercise range and more! This philanthropy demonstrates how much people care about their navy friends and family members stationed near them! Since its inception, NAVWC’s community outreach programming has helped create relationships between civilian volunteers and military members that are often stronger than those between civilians and police officers. These programs include “Duty Free Friday” which encourages residents to come out into town for dinner; “ShipleyFest” which features art exhibitions, music concerts and fireworks displays; “Navy Day” which provides opportunities for children to meet Sailors from all branches of service; as well as “Military Appreciation Night” during which local businessmen participate in a game night featuring antique detachment items from various navies around the world! In addition to these activities, NAVWC also participates in "Operation Give It All" each year during which itdonates proceeds from sales of Gifts For Soldiers products across its website to military charities nationwide! It's clear that not only do Naval Surface Warfare Center employees give back with their time but they also enjoy helping our allies maintain peace on earth!

North Aurora, Illinois is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,745 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Joliet Metropolitan Statistical Area. North Aurora was founded in 1836 as a part of the Town of Aurora. The current name first appeared on maps in 1859. The history of North Aurora can be traced back to 1836 when the Town of Aurora was organized by a group of landowner gentlemen from Cook County and Northwestern Indiana who were looking for a new home for their families after leaving West Point, Indiana. They named their new village after Neil Armstrong's native city of Armstrong City, Alberta, Canada. Located on what is now Burr Ridge Road and Old Orchard Road near present-day Downers Grove Township and just east of I-294 (northwest suburban extension), North Aurora was one of the earliest towns within Kane County. It quickly emerged as an important center for commerce and industry due to its location convenient to transportation facilities including railroads and markets; its close proximity toChicago; its easy access to major highways; and its rich agricultural resources which made it an ideal place to settle during the early years following European settlement in northcentral Illinois. In 1857, North Aurora became one of twelve towns consolidated into the newly formed Kane County government under the leadership of then-County Treasurer John Atherton. At that time, Kane County consisted onlyof Great Lakes counties – Cook (now DuPage), Lake (now McHenry), Will (now Williamson), Kendall (now Kankakee), Winnebago (now Peoria) – all located in what is now northwest suburban Chicago along I-94 between Lombard Street/I-88 and LaGrange Avenue/I-290). As communities grew throughout Kane County during this period they began electing officials other than county treasurer: five trustees were elected at large instead of through individual township voting while two other positions – clerk and recorder – were created by consolidation but never filled because no one wanted to take on those responsibilities! In addition to covering much territory not currently within any municipal boundaries yet included within today’s Kane County limits we learn about various civic organizations active in our community during this time including Kiwanis Club #1 which met monthly until disbanded c1900 then again monthly before that via interclub meetings held outdoors throughout late fall & winter evenings; Rotary Club with Annual Meeting held every 3rd Saturday evening beginning November 5th year from 6pm until 8pm inside Main Library building next door starting October 30th thru November 5th each year thereafter… Ladies Auxiliary Noemergency Squad response available 24 hrs 7 days a week…. One significant event from this time period relates to construction efforts surrounding 100 block section west side main street between Elmira Road & Getchell Road known locally as “The Ghetto” where numerous frame houses had been erected without permits or consent leading up until finally being removed by order Of Commissioners On May 25th 1870

The gift tradition is often associated with Christmas, but it extends well beyond that time of year. Gifts sent to units during wartime are also commonplace. Some of the earliest Navy deployments were conducted during World War II. On December 8, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and launched an attack on the United States mainland that killed over 2,500 people and left more than 40,000 injured. Admiral Chester Nimitz was assigned as Commander-in-Chief US Pacific Fleet at the time and ordered all Naval Forces Western Pacific (NEVER MENTIONING THE US NAVY) to be mobilized for war against Japan. This order became known as "The Friday Night Massacre". In 1945, when Japan had fallen and credits were being hand out by the Allied Nations for their participation in World War II, many Japanese citizens realized they may never see their families again if they did not support the regime that had ruled them for so many years. As a result of this sentimentality towards military members who had served abroad in what was seen as one successful campaign against an enemy no one could beat, many civilians donated items such as food or clothing to American troops stationed overseas during World War II. In 1946 alone American soldiers stationed in Europe donated over 20 tons of goods valued at $1 million dollars including cigarettes, soap operas and other popular items at auction off at various locations around the country including New York City’s Madison Square Garden where tickets ranged from $5 to $25 per ticket which sold out within seconds upon opening! This type of behavior continued into the postwar era with donations becoming even more common following America’s entry into Viet Nam in 1965 which led to increased donation rates among servicemen stationed there as well as civilians living near military areas throughout Southeast Asia due to proximity to vitalnance storage bases responsible for manufacturing everything from napalm grenades to air-to-air missiles! As technology advanced and new technologies started being developed outside of traditional realms like warfare or engineering such as those found in space or outer space both Naval forces - ashore or afloat - began receiving gifts through technology gifting programs known today as Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). One particularly notable DARPA project was called “Remote Sensing Systems Underwater – A Gift from History” which aimed to develop underwater sensors able provide realtime situational awareness information across entire ocean depths up until 10 kilometers deeprequiring no human operators! This type of gift gave rise not justto submarines operating undersea but also remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) used today by Special Operations Forces operators operating inside Afghanistan or Iraq! It wasn't until 2006 when DARPA tasked DARPA funded “Robo Jets: From Science Fiction To Reality”program seeking development of autonomous small unmanned aircraft systems capable conducting missions similar unto those flown by manned jets! These days we would likely call these typesof gifts “multifunctional equipment/apparatus”! After decades spent sending unique gifts back home with each deployment there has become something akin unto a Navy family crest; some sorta navy equivalent trophy thingy that submariners constantly tout about while others find laughable given how much they actually use it nowdays... kinda like Army's individual service academies do lol
