Montgomery is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,965 at the 2010 census. Montgomery is located on the north side of Chicago and is bordered by the towns of Cicero to the east and Park Ridge to the west. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Manteno metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1856 when a group of pioneers from New York City land grant a tract of land to James Montgomery for his services as an agent for Alexander McNaught Lyon in conveyancing deeds for their new town site. In 1860, John Fenton donated land on top of what is now known as Montrose Avenue to make way for a Masonic Temple; it served as one of Montgomery's first churches. By 1870, there were six businesses in Montgomery: three stores, two constables' posts, and one photographer's office. A post office was established at present-day Cumberland Road in 1872 and remained in operation until 1925; during that time it served as the only store in town. In 1882, officials negotiated an agreement with Midwestern Railway Company which resulted in construction of a line extending southeast from downtown Chicago through Montgomery into Park; this line later became part of the Illinois Central Railroad system. The community experiencedrowth following completion of this railroad project; by 1902 there were twenty businesses including six banks and four insurance companies operating inMontgomery Additionally, agricultural production increased due to improved irrigation systems brought about by engineers working with Midwestern Railway Company consultant George Stephenson Cook Jr.. The population reached 10,000 by 1930 but declined rapidly thereafter due to World War II military mobilization and then postwar economic decline throughout much Midwest America In 1951 residents approved annexation by neighboring Cicero Township which led to rapid growth over ensuing years culminating with incorporation as a Village on November 1st 1971 . As more people moved into tiny towns such as Montego Bayou (New Orleans), many residents soon abandoned their homes after allegations that local authorities failed to properly assess flood damage caused by Hurricane Katrina coupled with highulia values achieved during that decade . Nevertheless , Montrose remains largely intact today despite its brief period of notoriety amidst other larger communities experiencing similar fate during those difficult times

Montgomery is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. Montgomery was first settled in 1839. It became a city in 1905 and was merged into Chicago onJanuary 1, 1987. The settlement of Montgomerys began as two small log cabins on the banks of the Des Plaines River by traders from what is now Ottawa County, Illinois. In 1839, John Prentice built the first post office at Montgomery and named it after himself – Johnstown. The community grew rapidly due to its location on a branch of the Great Western Railroad and its access to water supplies from the Des Plaines River. By 1848, Montgomery had a school and 3 stores. On April 12 of that year, James Ayer founded an agricultural colony called Prairie du Chien which included Montgomery; he named it for his home state of Pennsylvania where he had been born earlier that year. By 1850, there were over 20 families living in Montgomery with 4 churches (Methodist: First Congregational Church; Presbyterian: Christ Episcopal church; Baptist: First Baptist church), 2 schools (gradeschool-Kindergarten through 8th grade: Stonington Female Academy; High School-9th through 12th grade: Black Hawk Academy), 2 mills (the Sibley brothers’ flour Mills #1 & #2), 2 Negro slaves (Jefferies family blacksmiths) and 5 horses worth $5 each). In 1855, Abraham Lincoln visited Montgomery while he was campaigning for president and observed "a very neat appearance" of the town's single white building surrounded by "a number of large negro huts". At that time only men could vote in Cook County but soon women were allowed to vote as well. The railroad arrived in 1865 which made life much easier for farmers and merchants who could now sell their products directly to consumers rather than having to go through middlemen such as traders or postmasters. In 1870–71 George Stephenson built the first powered locomotive in America at nearby Pullman Barracks - this helped speed up freight transportation across Cook County connecting farms with manufacturing sites east of Chicago including Springfield (). On January 1st 1987 Montgomery became part of Chicago following mayor Richard Mite's campaign promise to merge all municipalities within one citywide government structure thought to be more efficient and cost effective than running them separately.. According to some sources however consolidation did not go smoothly due largely to resentment over Mayor Mite's decision making within City Hall regarding various issues such as zoning changes which favored suburban neighborhoods while reducing property values near downtown; resulting in mass unemployment among inner city residents during this period known as The GreatChicago Displacement Crisis (). Due largely to these factors many businesses closed down throughout much of 1989–1990 when prices for goods bought locally plummeted 50%. Unemployment reached levels never before seen outside Ofia Hills Road Eastside neighborhood adjacent thereto - home turf of Mayor Richard Mite since being elected in 1988 & long considered one stop shop for White collar criminals (& other undesirables) local politicians respond by proclaiming “There’s no jobs here anymore!” & begin pushing through unpopular housing projects catering solelyto Blacks— eventually displacing Whites also once those projects become available again thanks mostlyto good planning & shovel work by developers.— As result entire inner city section went virtually unoccupied until recent years when crime rates have begunto rise again despite new police Superintendent
