Midlothian, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. Midlothian is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Midlothian is also home to St. Francis Xavier University and the Mid-America Center for Agricultural Research. Midlothian began as a small farming community in 1849 on the banks of the destroyed Chicago River flood plain west of Springfield.
