The early history of coffee in Markham is shrouded in mystery, but it is clear that the town was home to one of the first commercial coffee roasters in America. The original roaster, John Dickenson, operated out of a small house on Main Street for more than thirty years. In 1894, Dickenson relocated his business to what is now the corner of First and Washington Streets. From then until 1912, Dickenson produced and sold his own beans from a small shop located at 14th and Randolph Streets. Dickenson's successors continued to operate the business until World War II when it was destroyed by fire. The ashes were scooped up by local farmers who turned the land into crop fields. From then until recently, there has been little record of how or when coffee became popular in Markham. However, evidence suggests that coffee was being brewed here as early as 1792 when a French trader named Nicolas-Jacques Conte drank tea from an old log cabin near present day Middleton Road. It wasn't until 1824 that American General James Kieft founded Kieft Coffee Company on Springfield Road north of Markham. At first, Kieft imported Turkish coffee from Arabia while producing his own ground coffeebeans using methods still used today including grinding whole beans and boiling water to separate thenutture (the watery layer which contains taste) before brewing). However, due to increased competition from other companies and difficulties marketing their product abroad (Kcliffe lost $1 million during its first year), he began importing Italian espresso beans - thus beginning what would eventually become known as "Markham Roasting." During this time period also saw some important advances within coffee technology such as both mechanical blenders for making a finer grind and chemical roasting processes for increasing flavor intensity and preserving nutrients Greenberg & Bernstein write "during these years technological progress made possible not only improved production but also new products like espresso... which allowed for even greater differentiation between different types of roast." In 1876 Kcliffe merged with two other companies (Sheffield Coffee MerchantsLimited Partnershipand Bradford Coffee MerchantsLimited Partnership) forming United States Coffee Corporationwhose mission was "to promote excellence in all phases of cup-making" United States Coffee Corporation soon became very successful exporting its delicious Kopi Cumi brand coffees throughout North America under various company names such as National Coffee Products Co., Inc., Herald Corp., Empire Coffeeworks Ltd., Deutschland Nederlands Koffee Produktion GmbH & Co., LTD., Daily Steak House Pvt Ltd.]]. Ultimately however United States Coffee Corporation went bankrupt due largely to overspending on research projects related to artificial flavors etc.]]. Although depression-era businessmen did manage to salvage some assets among their closed factories]], much later Markshawne's Markshawne Bros./Café Anello opened up on Market Square with CONTINENTAL ROASTERS sources include Sumatra Sulawesi Mocha Beans,)]. Markham is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Markham were French colonists who arrived in 1763 and named it La Grange after a old farmstead on the west side of present-day Illinois. The name probably means "place where many trees grow." By 1814, English settlers had built a cabin near what is now the intersection of Kedzie Avenue and Wabash Street. In 1815, John Pritchard sold 1,362 acres (565 ha) of land west of Markham to Levi Morton for $2,500 cash and 10 cows. Morton named his new holdings Prairie du Chien because he thought the land would provide good grazing for cattle. In 1827, James Buchanan sold 640 acres (240 ha) east of Markham to George Stephenson for $1,000 cash with 8 cows and 6 horses. Stephenson renamed his new discovery Sheffield after the city in which he lived at that time – Manchester England – which may have been inspired by an advertisement from John Richardson that read "Sheffield Come to Trade". In 1830–31 Page bought 640 acres (240 ha) east of Markham from Stephenson for $3200 with 4 horses and 2 donkeys; this parcel became known as Prairie View AAF airfield later in life when aerial refueling services were available there from nearby Midway Airport. When Page died in 1875 his estate passed through ownership three times: once to his brother-in-law William Ladd Jr., then briefly to Jno.[citation needed] Finally it came into the hands of Edwin Drake who donated it to Chicago public schools in 1890 as part of their original school district boundary line acquisitions program following Chicago's incorporation as a city on April 3rd, 1893. Drake had also acquired 160 acres (60 ha) south/southwest of Prairie View AAF airfield soon thereafter as well as most or all remaining acreage north/northwest thereof since early 1917 whenHandlebarth Farms No.. 14 & 15 along Kedzie Ave./Wabash St./Eighth St./Cleveland Rd./Ninth St.-the last several miles being located within today's unincorporated community called Hermitage Heights just east off Kedzie Ave/Wabash St., about two-thirds way between Markham Rd.–now an expressway exit--and Hermitage Woods Cemetery on Hermitage Woods Dr.-just inside today's village limits just past Barron Road (exit 274), about onefourth mile northwest of downtown markham Village Limits - making this site one not only among those mentioned above but within easy reach even if living outside village limits; few people do so nowadays" wrote Mayor Richard Mionship at marker dedication ceremony marking end Of Heritage Trail #2

After the Indonesian revolution in 1945, Indonesia became an independent country and its coffee industry grew rapidly. By 1970, Indonesia had over 60% of the world's production of Colombian-grown coffee. By 2000, however, Indonesian production had dropped 30% due to restrictions on export and price hikes by global markets. In 2006, Starbucks opened its first international store in Jakarta – the company's third location outside of North America – providing another opportunity for Indonesians to purchase high-quality Indonesian coffees. Today, Starbucks is one of the largest purchasers of premium European coffees; its products are also available through other stores aroundthe world

Coffee was also used by the Sumerians and Babylonians. It was brought to Europe by Marco Polo in the 12th century AD. Coffee became popular in America during the 18th century, when it was cultivated on Long Island by Dutch settlers.
Markham, Illinois is a town located in Macomb County, Illinois. The population was 2,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first white settlers in what is now Markham were farmers and their families who arrived around 1836. They named their new community after market town ofmarkford in England. In 1847, a sawmill was built on the river near present-day Markham and began operations. The mill had an impact on the growth of the community as it provided important employment for local residents and helped to support commerce within its boundaries. In 1869, a post office was established in Markham and continued serving through 1870 when it became known as Harperville because mail received at Harperville reached Chicago first. In 1893, another sawmill closed which led to increased demand for lumber from neighbors so a railroad was built that year to bring more goods and people into town; this also aided development of commercial areas along Main Street today. During World War II, many residents enlisted in military service and some worked on production plants or served in other capacities during wartime efforts such as building tanks or planes out of smallottage materials available at home. Many still live close to their homes today thanks to postwar suburban sprawl which has impacted land values throughout the community (see below). Today's economy rests largely on tourism which continues to grow due to its proximity to downtown Chicago as well as attractions such as golf courses and museums located nearby (e.g., Oak Park Zoo). Housing prices have become increasingly scarce but continue to rise due mainstay suburban sprawl throughout much of Markham including most recently along I-90 corridor just east of town limits (see map).
Markham was founded in 1824 by John Markham and his family. The town grew rapidly from its initial population of only 20 residents to over 100 in a few years. By 1830, the city had a census population of 350 people. In 1834, the town passed an ordinance establishing a public school system. The first school was built on what is now Elm Street. In 1847, the Illinois General Assembly granted township status to Markham and other townships in Cook County. This gavemarkham more autonomy and allowed it to establish its own courts and municipal government. In 1860, the new city of Chicago annexed much of Markham Township including the old square block on Elm Street which housed the original town hall building until 1870 when it went into storage. The square block on Elm Street remained vacant until 1889 when it was used as a warehouse for local businesses. In 1902, the City Council decided to demolish all but one tower from what is now Polk Tower because of concerns about fire danger from adjacent property that still stood unused since 1834-35.. It was not until 1917-18 when plans were made to renovate and restore part of the structure which included restoring some original features such as brick chimneys (now demolished) In 1936, following World War II, Markham became home to many displaced persons who lived in tents or trailers Nearby schools offered free meals for those living in tents or trailers
