Navy deployments have a long and proud history in Granite City, Illinois. The city was one of the first communities to be served by the United States Naval Forces Europe (USNAFE) in 1945. The USS Constitution was a ship of the United States Navy that served during the American Civil War. On December 12, 1817, the Constitution sailed from New York City to Guantanamo Bay Cuba as part of the first U.S. naval force to enter Cuban waters since 1793. She arrived there on December 25 and spent three months conducting patrols off Havana Harbor before sailing back home on January 4, 1818.
Granite City is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 17,651 at the 2010 census. It is the fifth-largest city in Illinois and the second-largest in Chicago metropolitan area after Chicago and Peoria. The municipal boundaries were revised in 2007 to include parts of Ravenswood and West Englewood. The first settler in Granite City was John Davenport who arrived on July 10, 1837. Davenport named his new town for the granite rocks found near his farmstead. By 1860, Granite City had a population of 553 people and was incorporated as a village on February 14, 1861. On November 3rd, 1871 Granite City became an independent city when it passed an act incorporating all of Cook County including Ravenswood and West Englewood which bordered it to the east and south respectively. The Industrial Revolution began to impact Granite City beginning with brickmaking becoming the dominant industry by 1870s; however granitic rock continued to be mined until about 1900 due to its high hardness factor (up to 102 HRC). During this time period many important milestones occurred withingraniteplease production such as world’s first commercial shipment of granite blocks from quarries outside Europe on October 8th 1885 by James Wohlgemuth under license from American Can Company In 1907 General Electric established its electric power plant adjacent to what is now Northeastern Illinois University where electric lights replaced gas light three years later

In 2002, the navy sent a warship called HMAS Perth into waters off Okinawa after Typhoon Ondoy made landfall there. Today, the navy continues its tradition of sending gifts with special significance such as The Last Supper which was given to King George VI on Christmas Day 1954 by Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten. On July 20th 2009 HMAS Melbourne (ANZCAG-8) sailed into Australian waters with an assortment of gifts for residents and visitors along with Flags of all Nations flown from her masthead!

Granite City is a city in Illinois, United States. The population was 26,651 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Cook County and the seventh-largest city in Illinois. Granite City is home to the Rockford Register of Deeds office and is also a shopping center and transportation hub for central Illinois. The first settler in what became Granite City was John Smeaton, who arrived from England on July 12, 1836. He named his new town after the granite he had seen growing near his homecaster farmstead in Yorkshire. A post office called Smeaton was established in 1837, and by 1840 it had reached its present size of 24 square miles (71 square kilometers). Settlement continued until 1857, when violence between Native Americans and settlers erupted over land rights. By 1860, only 2 people were living in Granite City; by 1870 there were over 100 residents. In 1861, following Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, many African Americans began migrating to Illinois as a result of newly acquired rights to freedom under Ulysses S. Grant's Reconstruction policy known as "Equal Rights". Many black men worked their way up through service academies and other avenues into white society; few did so as quickly as Johnnie Dixon did when he moved to Granite City from Mobile Alabama two years later on October 1st1863 aged 17 years old – one year before Abraham Lincoln was elected president that year. Dixon soon became one of Granite City's most popular citizens because he could talk any language fluently (he learned six), got along well with others (he socialized extensively with women), knew how to dance (he learned early enough so that he could participate regularly in minstrel shows), and sang both inside or outside churches whenever appropriate due to his high voice quality even at a young age. In 1865 Dixon married Anna Hutton who would later become an accomplished writer herself – she contributed articles to various newspapers throughout her life including The Chicago Defender from 1901-1910 while living in Grand Rapids Michigan’s Iron Range where she served as editor emeritus for four decades starting 1923 until her death thirty years later on November 5th1964 at 91 years old making her one of only five women ever mentioned physicist Julius Kleinrock ever occurred live during physical contact within three feet or less having died suddenly prior leaving no note behind being cremated since remains were too soft undergoing an autopsy revealing multiple fractures skull fracture laceration orbital rupture perforation numerous lacerations subdural hemorrhage cerebral contusions…
Granite City was founded in 1867 by James W. Granite and his partner, John H. Stout. The city is named after the granite that was quarried there. The first store in Granite City opened in 1870. In 1908, Granite City became one of the towns in Cook County, Illinois.
