Evergreen Park is a large, affluent city in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 146,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Evergreen Park is one of the wealthiest cities in America and has been home to many famous individuals, including Abraham Lincoln and Jay Gould. The first settlers arrived in 1829, when John Jacob Astor moved from Rochester, New York with his family to what is now Evergreen Park. He and his wife Minnie founded a farmstead on a piece of land they purchased from the Native Americans. In 1835, they bought another piece of land east of the current city limits and developed it into what is today Evergreen Park. They named their new town after Lewis CassiusSweeting, an English statesman who served as United States Minister to Russia during the Napoleonic Wars. Evergreen Park became a municipality in 1893 and was annexed by Chicago in 1915. When World War I began, Chicago declared war on Austria-Hungary; ever since then, much of the community’s manufacturing had taken place withinChicago’s wards (northwest Side neighborhoods), particularly around Dearborn Avenue where factories were produced for munitions such as gasoline and shells used in World War I (manufacturing output peaked at over 1 million tons/year between 1920-1923). During World War II Evergreen Park operated two radar stations: “Shakespeare Ridge” near present day Winnetka Road and “Goudreau Hill” near Jefferson Boulevard just south of Roosevelt Road; these were both used for tracking bombers over Cook County airspace prior to their interception by fighter planes or escort missiles off Kankakee Island off Lake Michigan without warning any residents or causing damage or injuries…. The results showed that due to this type of technology all Japanese strategic bombing raids against US targets had been detected before they could inflict significant damage….. After 1945 most manufacturing operations turned towards using computers instead of manual labor which helped reduce joblessness rates thanks to automation……Today there are some remaining remnants from those days likethe Ford Dam located just north westof Harlem Rd., stilloperating under demolition order being completed as part of ongoing beautification campaign led by Mayor Rahm Emanuel
The Coast Guard has been a part of the United States government since 1790. The Coast Guard’s mission is to protect the nation’s ports, coasts and waterways by providing essential maritime services and support. The Coast Guard's history goes back to 1809 when the first seafarers on Long Island heard about an upcoming storm. They donated their food and supplies to help build a lighthouse on Governors Island. In 1915, the Coast Guard began using Cutters to patrol inland waters from Maine to Texas. In 1969, Congress created the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as an independent agency charged with maintaining our coastal environment and protecting our coastline against environmental damage. In 1992, NOAA created the Coast Guard Auxiliary which provides emergency assistance to other agencies during incidents at sea or ashore such as hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes and floods. Today, there are over 2,000 members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary who provide critical support for missions that include search-and-rescue operations, maritime law enforcement, public safety inspections and more.

The city was founded in 1871 by Andrew Johnson and named for Evergreen Forest, which he had bought from the then- proprietor of the forest, James K. Polk. It was originally an agricultural community with a population of about 12,000 people. In 1916 the city became one of the first in Illinois to be granted voting rights by the state legislature. In 1951 it became a city proper and has since grown rapidly with a population of over 300,000 residents as well as significant industrial and commercial development.
