The United States Army founded the Chicago-based artillery regiment, 2nd Illinois Infantry in 1846. The regiment was embodied on November 10, 1846 at the old City Hall building in downtown Chicago. The regiment was mustered into service for three years and served as a garrison unit in Harper’s Ferry and then at Fort Dearborn. In October 1850, the regiment was ordered to Springfield, Missouri for assignment to the 1st Brigade of the 3rd Division of General James Shields’ Union army. On December 17th, 1850, 2nd Illinois Infantry Regiment disembarked from USS Constitution at Norfolk Virginia and marched to Springfield where they joined up with other regiments of Shields division under command of Colonel John Buell. 2nd Illinois Infantry Regiment remained in Springfield until May 1861 when they were ordered back to Harper’s Ferry where they relieved 4th Missouri Regimental Combat Team commanded by Captain George Hinkley that had been engaged in a series of unsuccessful attacks on Confederate batteries near Fredericktown Courthouse. Aftermath of Civil War: In 1865 2nd Illini Infantry reorganized as an infantry battalion which became Company A (Second Battalion) of 9th Ulysses S. Grant's 7th Cavalry Regiment which participated in engagements around Liberty Bridge over the river Pecan during the Battle of Corinth on April 20-21, 1865; Battle Creek July 8-9; Chickamauga September 15-16; Siege Of Chattanooga September 19-27; Franklin February 14–May 6 1865 and surrender at Appomattox Court HouseApril 9 1865

Evergreen Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 85,472 at the 2010 census. It is the fourth most populous city in Illinois. The City of Chicago annexed Evergreen Park in 1892. The first settler of Evergreen Park was Nicholas Armour who arrived on the site in 1837. He built a home and barn near what is now Elmhurst Road and McLean Drive. Armour's heirs sold the land to Abraham Lincoln for $4,000 in 1853. The town was established by an act of the General Assembly on July 10,1862 as part of Chicago's annexation into the Union. In 1870s and 1880s there were several stores and hotels along Elmhurst Road and McLean Drive which became known as "The Stripes". On October 1, 1886 when Chicago Municipal Code No. 2 changed street names from east-west to north-south it renamed all streets within its limits "Evergreen". After incorporation as a city on December 3rd 1902, James Jurgensen quickly introduced new transportation methods such as electric streetcars that made traveling to various destinations within Loop (now Humboldt) easier than ever before possible including Evergreen Avenue where he lived between State Street and Wabash Avenue until his death on February 25th 1906 at age 73 years old from heart disease brought about by overwork at his job at Klondike Mines The first block of North Kedzie Boulevard now known as Western Ave began construction in 1911 with lots valued at $1 per acre being offered for sale immediately following completion In 1916 one Samuel Goudey started selling ice cream cones out of his truck stop located on Western Ave between Halsted St./ Cicero Rd./ Austin Ave/ Harrison St../ Milwaukee Ave../ Roosevelt Rd../ Eastern Ave../ Wellesley Dr./ Goudey Way etc.. By 1922 more than 100 stands had been erected throughout downtown with costs totaling $6 million dollars In 1924 Mayor Richard J Durkin declared that everyChicagoan should have their own mailbox since there wasn't enough space inside City Halls for everyone In 1928 President Herbert Hoover visited Chicago during his presidential campaign and while staying at McCormick Place saw first hand how inadequate many innercity neighborhoods looked with many residents living below poverty lines When he returned to office two years later he ordered improvement projects begun such as creating public Housing Authority developments which would provide social housing opportunities for low income residents starting in 1933
