Elmwood Park is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. Elmwood Park was founded in 1857 and became a village in 1955. The population was 9,863 at the 2010 census. Elmwood Park is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village of Elmwood Park was merged into the City of Chicago on December 1, 2002. The first settlers to Elmwood Park were Presbyterian missionaries who arrived in 1857 and built a log cabin near what is now Maple Avenue and Indiana Boulevard. In 1860, John Devereux erected a frame house on land that would later become Elmwood Park Center. First postmaster Wirt Laing opened his office here in 1865. A private school called Griggs School operated from 1868 to 1892 when it moved to Cicero; it reopened as the Griggs School for Girls in 1903 after being purchased by the city of Chicago.

Elmwood Park is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 917 at the 2010 census. The Elmwood Park post office was established in 1868 and discontinued operations in 1971. The first settler in what is now Elmwood Park was James Hickey. He built the first home on the site in 1871. A year later, he and his wife, Catherine (née Ryan), erected a log cabin on the same lot as their present home. In 1872, Hickey bought 3 acres (1 km²) of land east of town from John Sibley for $100. In 1876, David Cate founded Lucasville to provide industry with access to farmland west of the city Limits on which to grow corn and wheat for local markets. After two years of effort and investment by Cate, Lucasville became a success and generated over $4,000 in revenue that year alone. In 1886, John Sibley died leaving his extensive farmstead undivided between himself and his son-in-law David Cate Jr., who sold it to George Wernick for $160 cash plus 5% interest each year until it paid off in 1912 when Wernick received an additional 10% interest payment each year until 1914). This ended up being one of the largest transactions ever conducted in McHenry County at that time as George Wernick managed to buy not only what is now Elmwood Park but also three other villages: Niles (now part of Chicago), Hollandale (now part of Hammond), and Arlington Heights (now parts of Aurora and Chicago). David Grieve bought some land adjacent to Lucasville from Cate for $300 cash plus 1/2 share each year until it paid off for him in 1902; this addition gave Grieve control over almost all eastern McHenry County outside of Chicago proper including most or all of what is today Elmwood Park excepting just around its southern border where he acquired some additional property through purchases or gifts from other landowners before finally selling it all outright to Harry Keller Sr., father-in-law of Harry Keller Jr., who purchased it outright from David Grieve's widow Marion Forster back on May 25th 1928 – making him one owner/operator with total title theretofore unknown even within those limits! On November 12th 1934 Harry Keller Sr./Marion Forster married Josephine Morehouse with full legal title theretofore unknown among those boundaries… thus completing one long family saga! It should be noted that while much has changed since then throughout bothHarry Keller Sr.'s ownership/operations as well as subsequent boundary changes within Elmwood Park itself via deeds Recorded June 14th 1949 & again Recorded January 7th 1959 hereinabove mentioned documents included therein thereof thruout this entire paper period so please bear witheld when reading text resultant therefrom any implied assertions about eventuate secondarily ensuing events which may have otherwise occurred had such paper not been prepared) On September 16th 1951 Mr./Mrs…..(named party hereof) transferred their residence from their original location across street from old post office building (& formerly named after Mrs…..) into brand new Stovepipe mobile Home park situated just south side Of Elmwood Lake located adjacent To newly built church & playground equipment etc etc etc…) becoming owners/ occupants thereof effective date thereof! So ends long & interesting history associated With Old #1 Post Office Building located Just South Side Of Elmwood Lake Also known As "Elmwood Village"
