The Edwardsville National Guard was first organized on November 11, 1846. It was discontinued on October 23, 1907.
Edwardsville is a small town located in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,789 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Edwardsville is named after General Edwin A. Edwards and his family who settled there in 1847. The village of Edwardsville was platted on July 4, 1853 by John Hynes and James Kapp for $2,000. In 1865, Captain Wm. Dutton organised a local militia to protect settlers from Native Americans who had threatened their villages with war if they did not sell them land to the tribe. The militiamen were later called the "Dutton Regiment". In 1871, the Chicago & Northwestern Railway built a line through Edwardsville connecting it with Highland Park and Skokie. This created an increased demand for goods and services in the village which led to its growth over time; businesses began popping up all around town while people started moving in from surrounding areas such as Streamwood and Arlington Heights. In 1915, when World War I began, many residents joined the military to serve in Europe; one result was that many homes were destroyed due to fires set by soldiers during their stay away from home. Another consequence of World War I was that industry shifted from rural Illinois towards larger cities like Chicago due to shortages of resources caused by wartime conflict abroad; this also led to jobs being available close to home for those who wanted them instead of going far away or waiting months or years for an opening at a more established company. This new economy gave rise to new businesses throughout Edwardsville but also brought about some challenges such as higher prices for goods because of transportation costs added on top of regular expenses associated with running these businesses; however, these challenges were eventually overcome through innovation and hard work by both business owners and their employees alike. In 1965-1966 Edwardsville Memorial Hospital (EMH) opened its doors as one of first hospital complexes in Chicagoland providing multi-specialty care including surgery, maternity care (including early detection/prevention programs), heart disease/stroke treatment center(s), infertility treatments etc.. EMH became known as one of Chicagoland's leading hospitals before it closed its doors in 1993 following declining patient volume within EMH itself coupled with other reorganizations within Chicagoland health systems.. However since then EMH has been reborn several times as various charity organizations have come into ownership including most notably Karnak House Children’s Hospital (HHCH). HHCH now provides primary care services for children ages 1-18 living within EDWARDSVILLE boundaries.. Edwardsville is a small town in the eastern part of Illinois, United States. The population was 10,851 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Edwardsville-Munster line. The area that now makes up Edwardsville was first settled by Europeans in 1795. The town was named for General Richard Edwards, who fought in the American Revolution and as a colonel in the Illinois Militia. The original settlers were farmers and their families who farmed along the river banks around present day Edwardsville and Munster. There were no schools until 1841 when a schoolhouse was built on what is now State Street. In 1855, the state legislature moved from Springfield to Chicago and organized new districts within Cook County including Edwardsville which became one of them. In 1907, electric streetcar service began between downtown Chicago and Edwardsville making it possible for people to get to work without having to leave their homes. This change not only made commuting easier but also allowed for more businesses to open up in town which contributed to its growth over time. Today, Edwardsville features a mix of older brick buildings dating back to before World War II with newer structures erected during that time such as the Horton Building which opened in 1984 as part of an effort to revive downtown Edwardsville after years of decline. One of the most popular tourist attractions in town is Black Hawk Lake which offers fishing opportunities both large and small; visitors can also find vendors selling souvenirs closeby should they wish to purchase something related to Black Hawk Lake or just take some pictures or videos while there!
