The regiment was redesignated as Company I on October 9, 1898 and again on May 10, 1902. The Second Illini Infantry Regiment disbanded on September 25, 1907 due to a lack of volunteers. On November 1, 1912, Company K of the Seventh United States Infantry Regiment was organized atCrystal Lake and served in World War I as part of the Army Service Forces. After World War I ended in 1918, company K disbanded on April 14th because there were not enough soldiers available for another war cycle. On October 16th 1915 a detachment from Company L of Seventh United States Infantry Regiment arrived at Crystal Lake from Rockford and became part of Company K On January 2nd 1916 a detachment from Company M (now Headquarters and Headquarters Battery) arrived from Decatur IL also becoming part of K On February 3rd 1916 Companies A & B arrived from Hammondsport IN becoming companies D1 & D2 respectively Finally two days later Companies C & E arrived arriving as Companies F1 & F2
