Air Force gift history in Crystal Lake, Illinois began on July 1, 1969 with the selection of a new air force Base in Crystal Lake. The purpose of the Base was to support fighter jets and other aircraft. It was also decided that a Museum would be built on the Base. Crystal Lake is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,713 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Crystal Lake was incorporated on December 1, 1871. The first people to live in Crystal Lake were Indians who came from the Laputa Islands and hunted deer and other animals there. They named their village after the crystal clear waters that surrounded it. The water's clarity probably allowed them to see things they couldn't see elsewhere because they had no atmosphere or clouds to obstruct their view. In 1867, Rev. John Auld founded an Episcopal church in Crystal Lake and began baptizing newlyweds there. In 1870, he built a schoolhouse on South Union Street which served as the town's first courthouse until 1888 when a new courthouse was built on State Street near current day North Side Drive. On December 1st, 1871, Crystal Lake became an incorporated community with Wm Hurlbut as its first mayor and Drury as its first postmaster

Crystal Lake is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,854 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Crystal Lake was founded on the shores of Crystal Lake in 1871 by George A. Smith and his brother-in-law Amos Kendall. The name "Crystal" comes from Mount Rainier in Washington State where Smith made a discovery of silver phosphate crystals in 1859. The first post office at Crystal Lake was established on December 12, 1870, and served as the village's only occupant until it merged into the town of East Dundee on January 1, 1893. The original town plat shows that there were two churches (the First Methodist Episcopal Church and the Presbyterian Church) - one for men and one for women - a blacksmith shop (the National Blacksmithing Institute), five schools (one high school and four elementary schools), six businesses including three stores (two general stores, one grocery store, one hotel), two water systems serving both villages with eighteen taps each - all built before 1915 - an ice cream parlor called "Dundee Creamery" which opened in 1917; twenty-six residences; sixteen acres of parkland; eleven miles of roadways leading to or within Crystal Lake limits; twelve miles of shoreline beaches providing swimming and snorkeling access as well as fishing opportunities; and three small lakes shared by both villages: crystal_lake_lake, crystal_lake_westinghouse, and crystal_lake_eastinghouse. Crystal Lake residents voted to incorporate as a city on November 4th 1909 under the leadership of Mayor Harry Daley who had come from nearby Chicago's South Side ward where he had been mayor for eight years prior to that. On October 25th 1914 during World War I when munitions production increased in Illinois due to increased demand from Europe caused by war efforts CrystalLake became known as "the dumping ground for Chicago." After World War I endedcrystal lake became known again as an economic center with new industry starting up such as automotive manufacturing which continued until the late 1970s when it declined precipitously because General Motors discontinued operations there after leaving South Korea
