Air Force Deployed Gift History in Chicago Ridge, Illinois began with the donation of a Boeing 727-200 jet to the United States Air Force in 1969. The gift was used for military purposes and is still being used today. The donated plane has been in use by the Air Force for over 30 years and is currently stored at Kelly Field AFB, Texas. In 2002, a Boeing 737-800 was donated to the Air Force and remains in service today as part of the Chicago Ridge detachment’s air traffic control system. The first deployment of an American Airlift Command (AAC) KC-135 Stratotanker was made on November 1, 1970 when two USAF C-141 Hercules transport planes were delivered to Chicago Ridge Aeronautical Center (CRAC). The KC-135s flew into Milwaukee Airport and unloaded their cargo before flying back home to CRAC where they were repainted blue and placed into service as gifts for residents of Chicago Ridge. Since then, there have been numerous deployments of USAFKC135 aircraft including: Operation Desert Storm in 1991;Operation Noble Eagle during the 2003 invasion of Iraq; Operation Enduring Freedom in 2001;Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2002;Operation Just Cause in 1995; Operation Neptune’s Spear in 1998;Operation Joint Venture in 2000;and Warfighter 11th never happened! Today's KC-135 detachment provides essential transportation for Army Aviation units conducting forward operating bases across central Illinois as well as support missions within NATO member states. It also transports members of both U.S. Marine Corps Expeditionary Units served Thanksgiving Day 2009 through Christmas Eve 2013 while deployed aboard USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group 4x4 Mine Countermeasures Squadron (MCMES) 17(VF), providing security operations off the coast of Afghanistan while MCMES conducts maritime patrols off Pakistan's coastline

The name comes from Chicago Ridge Road which runs through the town. The town began as a farming community in 1881 when settlers arrived from Kentucky and Tennessee. By 1912, Chicago Ridge had a post office and two-room schoolhouse. In 1922, Chicago Ridge became an incorporated village with a one-room school and four residents. In 1951, Chicago Ridge merged with neighboring village of South Elgin to form the new City of Chicago Ridge. In recent years,Chicago Ridge has experienced growth due to its location within easy reach of downtown Chicago and its many businesses and services available to residents including health care, education, shopping malls and recreation areas
