Carpentersville, Illinois is a small town located in Cook County, Illinois, east of Chicago. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. The name "Carpenterville" was derived from the local woodcarver and carpenter industry. The first settlers in Carpenterville were Nathan Denny and his family who arrived in 1814. There were also four other families that arrived between 1814 and 1816: David Daniels, John Denton, Amos Deveraux and Elisha Fenton. The first building that was built in Carpenterville was a log cabin which was built byeman David Daniels. In 1824, the first store in Carpenterville was opened by Levi Coffin and his husband Daniel Coffin. It functioned as a general store for many years until it burned down in 1865. In 1865, the first school in Carpenterville was opened by Elijah Whitehurst with fifteen students. It would serve as the primary school for many years until it closed in 1954 due to budget cuts. In 1924, the first Baptist church was erected within walking distance of present day Carpentervillians shopping center called First Baptist Church (later known as First United Methodist Church). Reverend John Hogg served as pastor of this church from 1924 until his death on October 6th, 2002. In 1934-35 there were several homes built just north of present day intersection of Pulaski Road and Old Highway 10 near Ladd Lake which housed about sixty people at one time when operated by Mrs Trotter & her two daughters; later sold to Mr Crain & wife who operated it until their deaths Nov 1st ’57 then passed it along to their son; now operates it Operates stove out back open year round through Advent services . . . very peaceful place during these difficult times Today’s community began growth when an early settler named Augustus Carpenters moved into what is now south side of North Boulevard around1850 or so after making purchase from Nicholas Wisniewski*. This man had 4 sons join him including Augustus Jr., Hiram*, Isaac* & Amasa*. Of note *Amasa died young at only 24yrs old while farming near Decatur IL

Carpentersville, Illinois is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was chartered on December 17, 1847 by Enoch Pratt and James Halsey as Decatur Township. On March 20, 1851, it became Carpentersville when the townships of Decatur and Horchata were combined to create that township. A post office called Carpentersville was established in 1852, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1896 the railway company Central Railroad of Chicago extended its line from Rockford east to Carpentersville; this made Carpentersville an important railroad town. In 1907 the village of North Aurora incorporated as a separate municipality; however, North Aurora would be merged into CarpentersVILLE again in 1911 when those two townships were combined into Kane County. During World War II much work took place at Ford Motor Company's manufacturing plant located just north of town on Richfield Road which employed up to 4500 people directly or indirectly while also providing jobs for many others who contributed to production through their unions with other companies around the area including Chevrolet and American Motors Corporation (the "Big Three"). Many residents still live within walking distance of that large factory today as well as other local businesses that remain significant players in local economy today such as Sears Roebuck & Co., Progressive Auto Parts Co., Cooks Pavilion Casino Resort & Spa - all located less than one mile from downtown Carpentersville on Elm Street between Wacker Drive and Cicero Avenue
