Carpentersville is a small town in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 2,794 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village of Carpentersville was organized on February 14, 1847 by James A. Carpenter and his brother-in-law, George Ladd. The first post office was established in Carpentersville on November 5, 1848 under the name of Hardwick Junction. On July 1, 1850, the village renamed itself to Carpentersville after General David Dixon Carpentier who served as a Ulysses S. Grant lieutenant colonel during the American Civil War and later became an influential businessman in Chicago. On October 20, 1855, President James Buchanan signed legislation creating the Illini Normal and Industrial Institute which became one of America's largest universities with more than 52 campuses across 38 states and Puerto Rico. The institute was dedicated on November 17th with Wm Halleck serving as its first president. On December 12th 1906 Mayor John Fenton pronounced judgment in favor of prohibition against any person without a purchase ticket being able to buy alcoholic beverages within City Limits until such time as alcohol could be produced commercially without infringing upon municipal rights etc.. In celebration of this event Carpentersville erected a large granite obelisk at corner lot 10 N Main Street bearing Mr Fenton’s likeness surrounded by an evergreen wreath topped by a metal star with 24 gold balls representing all 50 United States District Attorneys who took part in the trial). Carpentersville, Illinois is a small town in the state of Illinois that dates back to 1848. The first settlers in Carpentersville were the Hennepin brothers, who built a cabin on the banks of the Mississippi River. Over time, other families arrived and started businesses in the town. By 1870, Carpentersville had a population of around 150 people. The early years of Carpentersville were difficult because there was no money to be made from carpentry. However, over time, starting with John Hennepin's death in 1881, things changed and carpentry became an important part of the community's economy. Starting out as a small shopkeepers with just a few employees, John's sons Charlie and Harry soon opened their own shops in Carpenterville. With their help, carpentry came to be seen as one of the town's most important businesses. In addition to their shops, Charlie and Harry also set up home businesses in Carpenterville. These businesses led to increased demand for woodcarving services from residents and businesses alike. As trade grew more prosperous within Carpenterville, so too did its economy; by 1910, carpentry was one of the leading sectors of local commerce. Despite being one of America's smallest towns at just over 1 square mile (2 km²), Carpentersville has experienced some significant growth over time: today it has around 2200 residents spread across 9 wards comprising 6 neighborhoods located on three streets that run perpendicular to each other: Main Street/Upper Cedar Street/Lower Cedar Street/4th Ward - which contains Central Park - Boulevard Avenue - which runs along Topeka Drive between Northern Avenues (northwest side) and Jefferson Avenue (southwest side), Ford Road between Southern Avenues (east side) and Michigan Avenue (west side)), Vinegar Hill Road between Northern Avenues (northwest side) and Randolph Road (southwest side)), South Lyon Road between Northern Avenues (northwest side) and Randolph Road (southwest side)), Richards Drive between Southern Avenues (east side) and Indiana avenues east-to- west (( northwestern corner))). In 1907-08 there was extensive renovation work done on all six wards including reworking all entrances into each ward as well as new plumbing systems replaced throughout many homes including two lavatories per block replacing hand pumps then used by men only after dark when they could go outside without fear or worry about sexual solicitation activities taking place right near them! Work included painting all public property white except new sidewalks laid down during this period such as Beechwood Avenue east-to- west running through Richards drive where streetlights now shine providing privacy while working etc.), installation Of electric lights inside government buildings becoming standard everywhere thanks To Mr Edison himself!), construction And erection Of schools including four high schools & two middle schools during this period making our once small town become quite big indeed!)
