Bensenville is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,451 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Bensenville was founded in 1856 as a result of the merger of two small towns, Over Prairie and Belmont. The name "Bensenville" comes from Abram Bensen, who bought land near what is now Bensenville in 1851. In 1886, John Fenton built a gristmill on the west side of town which became known as Fenton's Mill. The mill closed in 1907 but reopened in 1925 as an ice cream parlor called Ice Cream Palace II during World War I when it produced goods for troops stationed in nearby Camp Butler. In 1924-25 also, the first major theater complex was built on North Main Street between First Avenue and West State Street which became known as the Paramount Theatre after Paramount Pictures Corporation purchased it from Edmond Julliard (the father of Orson Welles). In 1927-28, over $1 million worth of new construction began to improve downtown business areas including several blocks north of North Main Street between West State and South State Streets known as "Theatre Row." This included the building of several large department stores such as Sears Roebuck and Macy's along with many smaller businesses and residences. On November 15th 1928 local paper reported that Due to an increase in traffic conditions due to President Coolidge's re-election campaign 100% more candy had been sold by merchants than ever before during his term! In 1969-70 four new high school buildings were built: Eisenhower High School (now Homan High School), Morrison Middle School (now Greenleaf Middle School), Lewis High School (now Wright Tech) and one elementary school: wingate Elementary Center which served students from grades K-5 until 1976 when they moved into new schools located south off Muskegon Road on Northwest Side which are still used today. These schools were funded by state money through bonds that were issued statewide to finance public works projects throughout Kane County while also providing jobs for local residents during periods of economic downturns or recessionary times resultant from changes within American society caused by World War II; this type of program came to be called 'The Great Society'. Some people have said that these larger suburban schools actually discouraged development near downtown because people felt like they were being kept away from their own communities because those communities lacked good schools closer to home whereas suburban developers could build their homes much closer to where they worked making life easier for their families while also creating jobs outside their community - something some feel helped preserve downtown bussiness areas despite current trends towards gentrification within many neighborhoods across America
