The Bensenville Coast Guard has been providing service to the community since 1891. The Coast Guard Station is located on Illinois Route 54, approximately 3 miles north of the town center. The station provides services such as search and rescue, marine patrol, and public safety. In 1891, the Coast Guard was established in Bensenville when a group of men from Hinsdale donated their time and equipment to help with coastal protection issues. The Station was originally called the Hinsdale Harbor Patrol. In 1925, the name was changed to the Bensenville Coast Guard Station after Rear Admiral John Fenton became its first commanding officer. Since its establishment, the Bensenville Coast Guard has played an important role in keeping our community safe and secure. In addition to their duties at Station Bensenville, members of the Coast Guard also provide support for other local municipalities by providing boarding operations and security for vessels docking at various ports in Cook County. Throughout its history, the Coast Guard has had many individuals who have contributed their time and skills to make sure that our community is well-protected from harm. Some of these individuals include Rear Admiral John Fenton who served as Commanding Officer from 1925 until his death in 1969; Captain Edwin Kappeler who held command from 1951 until his death in 1970; Captain Harry Weinstock who served from 1971 until his retirement in 1984; Lieutenant Commander Don Ratcliffe who commanded Unit 2nd District during Operation Desert Storm; Commodore James McNamara who led unit 5th District during Hurricane Katrina; Lieutenant Colonel Jeffery Meeks whose duty included patrols alongshore near freeways; Commander Brent Pohlman with unit 9th District during exercises Endeavor III & Southern Jaguars II; Commander Todd Jernigan with unit 12th District during exercise Prairie Knights II

The Bensenville Coast Guard Station was established in 1911 and served as a harbormaster, customs office, lifeguard station and communications center. The present station is located on the north side of town and was built in 1962. It is home to the Coast Guard's Patrol Boat Squadron One and two Life Saving Unit boats.
Bensenville is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,874 at the 2010 census. Bensenville is located on the west side of Kane County and is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It lies along I-294 and has a large shopping mall and several smaller businesses. The community began as a small farming village in 1871 near what is now the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. The name "Bensenville" was derived from early settler George Benson, who named his farm after general John Quincy Adams. The first school in Bensenville was opened in 1872 by Mrs. Catherine Hinton with six students in her home. In 1875, the first post office was established in Bensenville and mail reached the village for the first time that year from Stonington, Connecticut. In 1876, Drury & Sons Hardware Store opened on Main Street which became one of the most important commercial institutions in Bensenville until it closed its doors in 1978; however, many of Drury's staff still live within walking distance today including his son-in-law Tom Ladd who currently operates Ladd's General Store on Main Street which also played an important role during prohibition era due to its wide selection of liquor products unavailable any other way In 1916 (the same year as World War I), Bensenville united with neighboring Beech Grove to form Beech Grove Village (later renamed Beech Park). At that time there were only two buildings: Mrs. Anna Hardesty’s grocery store and Mr./Mrs.'s residence built by local farmer Jens Werner for $6 per month using natural resources such as lumber he had acquired from nearby cedar forests In 1930 when Kane County formed there were over 10 villages with over 100 residents but all merged into one municipality called Kane County through an act passed by then governor Alanson Pearce In 1948 when CookCounty formed there were 5 villages with under 50 residents but all merged into one municipality called CookCounty through an act passed by then county board chairman Harry Swayne

Bensenville is a census-designated place in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 8,812 at the 2010 census. It forms part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Bensenville was founded by German immigrants in 1834 as a small farming community on the edge of what is now Cook County. The town grew quickly due to its natural resources and its location on the Chicago River between Damen and Humboldt Streets. The first post office was founded in 1835, and within a few years Bensenville had become an important trade center for farmers on the north side of Chicago. In 1847, Bensenville became one of two communities in Cook County to have their own jail. In 1870, Bensenville incorporated as a city under the name "Cooksburg". The city's rapid growth led to pollution problems which were eventually solved with passage of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 Amendments (NEPA). This law created rules that required agencies such as cities and counties to consider environmental factors when making decisions about new land or building projects. As a result of NEPA's impact on local government, many large businesses relocated to other parts of Illinois or out of country during the 1970s and 1980s; however, some smaller businesses continued to operate in Bensenville until after 2000. Thanks to these efforts by City Hall and community organizations over the past several decades, some aspects of downtown development have returned while others continue to be developed cooperatively through various partnerships among business owners, residents and government officials. Today, Bensenville is home to several high-tech firms as well as significant amounts OF housing units including public housing developments located near downtown areas
Bensenville was founded by German immigrants in 1837. The town became a center for the Illinois Central Railroad, and it prospered until World War I. After the war, Bensenville declined as a result of population growth in nearby towns. However, the town regained its prosperity in the 1970s and 1980s through development of new businesses and a growing nightlife scene. In recent years, Bensenville has experienced increased competition from nearby cities due to their more expensive housing prices and their focus on outdoor recreation.
