Post Falls was a small town in Idaho, located on the Clearwater River. The community was founded in 1881 by Alexander Graham Bell and his wife Eliza Prentice. Post Falls hosted a summer exposition from 1889 to 1893, and then became an agricultural center. In 1925, it merged with neighbouring Caldwell to form the new Post Falls–Caldwell borough. In 1959, Post Falls was renamed after its founder and first mayor, Alexander Graham Bell. Today, the town is a small rural community with few people living outside of the downtown core. The early post- Civil War years were difficult for Post Falls because of lack of available supplies and transportation; however, over time they developed an economy based on agriculture and services provided by locals as well as visitors coming downriver for fishing or tourism purposes. By 1908, there were 10 businesses in Post Falls employing 350 people. During World War II most of the factory work shifted to other parts of the country but many residents stayed in town to help out with munitions production; however, during 1945 much of the manufacturing stopped due to war damage. However, some shops continued until 1948 when all operations moved into larger facilities across the river at Caldwell. Since 1961 Post Falls has been governed by Borough Council which consists of six councillors who are elected at-large while one councillor is chosen from each constituent ward; these councils have no power over infrastructure such as education or public works. The current Mayor is Danica Kirka who took office on January 1st 2019 after being elected unopposed at an election held on December 12th 2018

Post Falls, Idaho is a small town located in the Boise Valley of Idaho. The population was 9,023 at the 2000 census. Post Falls is one of the few townships in Boise County that does not have a high school. The mainstay of Post Falls' economy are its three stores: hardware and sporting goods store, grocery store, and post office. In recent years, other businesses such as restaurants and chiropractic care have begun to thrive in Post Falls. The first settler to arrive in what is now Post Falls was Luther Pogue on May 10th, 1864. Luther purchased 640 acres of land east of present day Post Falls from George Hinkle. After four years of surveys and due process by local justices -, Pogue filed his claim for the land with the U.S. Land Office on December 7th, 1868. His purchase included a meadow along the Snake River which he named "Emmons Meadow" after his brother-in-law Emmons Atherton who helped him finance his journey westward into what is now Montana Territory (now western Wyoming). Fifty miles south of present day Post Falls on State Highway 16 was another early settler's home called Green Gulch (). Green Gulch had been built by Daniel Boone about 1775 for himself and his family as their summer retreat from civilization near Fort Bridger on the Great Plains where they were engaged in hunting buffalo and other game necessary for their subsistence during these harsh times (). For many years it served as a base camp for Boone's expeditions into eastern Oregon () before being abandoned by him around 1800 (). About 1870 David Swann established an agricultural colony near today's Hansen Lake (), naming it Swanntown after himself (). By 1871 there were only ten residents living at Green Gulch() while Swanntown had thirtyeight people; however following Swann's death within two years most settlers deserted both communities because of lack of water or food resources (). In 1872 Elias Custer discovered gold prospecting country northwest of today's Post Falls when he rode his horse over some hills in what is now Clearwater County (); immediately upon discovering this golden opportunity he organized a party led by fellow American Andrew Jourdain () to stake out claims but without success returned back to Independence Springs () soon afterwards(). Two years later Charles Goodyear visited Custer’s field while seeking mineral rights northeastward from Carden ($10 per ounce) but failed to find any worthwhile ore despite spending several weeks stakeout}(). In 1874 Goodyear organized another party led by John Wesley Powell () that penetrated 3 miles deep into Intercourse Canyon () although they did not find any gold until they reached Mount Rushmore National Monument five months later(). Although good news at the time(), this discovery quickly lost favor due to bad publicity given to Early American miners such as James Wickersham (), which further eroded demand forstedgold throughout much Western America (). This second unsuccessful expedition marked alsothe beginningoftheendofUnited States mining operations outside California ()) . As United States mining efforts dwindled so too did available resources for local settlements; however some brave souls like David Brower (1876-1940), son of lumber baron Henry Brower (), fought tooth and nail against government policies that would ultimately doomed their community as well (). Today portions of both Green Gulch() and Swanntown remain extant scattered among residential neighborhoods just outside downtown Post Falls,. While Green Gulch has been redeveloped into an upscale neighborhood with homes starting at $275,000.,Swanntown remains largely unaltered save for one block north where a new grocery store has replaced an earlier post office building dating back to 1907/8 (). Overall though development has taken place adjacent to physical remnants associated with pioneer times including: original homesteads built uponemanor ranges overlooking Snake River valley; old log buildings used as schools, churches, hospitals etc.; interpretive signs marking places where early pioneers lived & worked; natural features such as streams & mountains viewable from city streets) few if any reminders remaining visible or touchable reminder that U S Mines once thrived hereabouts
In 1863, Post Falls was the capital of Idaho. It was named for General George Armstrong Custer, who had been killed in action at the Battle of Gettysburg. The city was destroyed by a fire in 1887 and rebuilt with new architecture. In 1902, it became the terminus for the Oregon Trail.
