The Post Falls, Idaho Coast Guard has been providing emergency services on the state's coastline since 1915. The Coast Guard is made up of a variety of service branches, including the Rescue Squadron and the Helicopter Wing. On July 1, 1914, the Coast Guard was created when the State of Idaho passed an act creating it. At that time, there were only two coast guard stations in the state; one at Boise and one at Post Falls. The rescued ships were often brought to Post Falls for storage before being sent back out to sea. In 1917, post office employees donated a large hanger at their station to house boats used by the Coast Guard during exercises off California's coast. This was also when they began using helicopters to help with rescues from shipwrecked sailors. In 1938, additional land was added to Post Falls Station and it became known as a helicopter landing field. Throughout its history, the Coast Guard has responded to numerous emergencies on both local and international shores. Some of our most recent disasters include: Hurricanes Harvey and Irma; wildfires in Northern California; earthquakes in Southern California; floods in Montana; and tornadoes near Dallas-Fort Worth Texas. Despite these tragedies, every year we remember those who have died or gone through terrible experiences while working with us onshore or offshore. Post Falls, Idaho is a small town located in south-central Idaho. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Post Falls is the county seat of Carbon County. The history of Post Falls goes back to 1875 when three men from Iowa started a post office in what is now Post Falls. For many years, the post office was located on the intersection of two streets which were also named after Post Falls residents: Central Street and Park Avenue. However, because it was located so close to Boise City, the Postal Service decided in 1958 to move the post office to its present site on State Street east of downtown. The original building still stands and can be toured today. Today, Post Falls is known for its breweries – four of them in addition to White Claw Brewery – as well as its delicious curries and Islamic cuisine that has become an attraction for tourists and locals alike. One of the things that have made Post Fall such a popular tourist destination over the years is its easy access to both snowmobiling and skiing; both activities are available year-round here! The growth of Post Falls led to increased development around the town, which caused traffic congestion and pollution problems. In 1977, Post Falls voters passed a referendum calling for the city’s annexation by Boise City. This process began in 1978 and resulted in Post Falls becoming part of Boise City. Today, Post Falls is one of the most vibrant cities in Idaho with a rich cultural heritage and active downtown scene.
Post Falls was founded in 1868 by George Post and his wife Eliza. The Post family soon began to grow crops and sell goods out of their home. In 1872, they built a log store on the banks of the South Fork Boise River. The store became a popular spot for visitors to purchase goods from local farmers and travelers. In 1876, Post sold the store to James Wirtz. Wirtz renamed the business Wirtz post falls after himself. The shop continued to be a popular tourist destination until it closed in 1951.
