This signaled the beginning of an era of growth for Smyrna Coffee Company, which has since attained national recognition for its unique flavor profile and reliable customer service. The company has offices throughout the United States and Canada, as well as a production center in Brazil. The popularity of small batch coffee increased in the 1920s when a group of businessmen purchased the farm where Mr. Jones' original small batch coffee shop sat and began brewing their own beans. The business continued to grow until it closed in 1970 due to the economic recession in Smyrna. Today, there are still some small batch coffee shops around town that offer delicious cups of java made with fresh, roasted beans from Smyrna's farmers market!
Smyrna is a city in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 12,513 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of DeKalb County. Smyrna is one of the largest and most populous cities in DeKalb County. Smyrna began as an agricultural community on the edge of what is now DeKalb County. In 1852, James Gadsden built the first permanent house in Smyrna when he purchased two hundred acres (10 km²) of land from General Nathan Bedford Forrest for $5 per acre (1/2 bushel). Gadsden's grandson, John A. Gadsden II, founded a cotton mill in Smyrna to process cottonseed and other products from his family's plantation near Dahlonega. The mill closed in 1922 but left a lasting legacy: it still has been used as a private working farm since then. In 1892, voters approved an incorporation ordinance that granted city status to Smyrna. On April 14, 1893, Mayor Wm Haddon announced that Smyrna had become "the national capital of cotton." That same year Congress passed an act appropriating money for the construction of a new Capitol building to be located within the walls of City Hall; however this project was not completed until 1907 when Congress appropriated $40,000 more for its completion under then-President Grover Cleveland’s administration which saw Smyrnans designation as both a “major center for trade with South America” and home to many important political leaders during Reconstruction period including Governors Dillard Clements and Alexander Stephens among others The post-World War I growth belt brought prosperity to Smyrnan with mills being constructed throughout downtown along with housing developments such as Stroude Towers which were notable because they were built outside typical city zoning regulations In 1925 plans were made to move downtown but due to economic conditions the project never materialized However after World War II growth resumed with numerous new businesses opening up including banking institutions like First American National Bank and Standard Oil Company while also bringing outhistoric buildings like African Methodist Episcopal Church which still stands today
