Lee became Lieutenant Governor of Georgia and chose Griffen as his official residence. The community name comes from George Washington's plantation in nearby Haleville which he bought in 1793 for $10 per acre (1/4 mile square).George Washington's plantation included a gristmill that produced flour for local grocery stores and made bricks for building churches and other private homes in Griffin during its early years. The town has experienced many changes over time includingappaquatation with McIntosh County in 1907 which led to much development around Poolesville; annexation by Cobb County following World War II; numerous annexations during subsequent decades including Griggsboro, Roswell, Alpharetta - all due to population growth or contraction within Atlanta metropolitan area; more recent annexations such as DeKalb Park in 1990s followed subdivision trends within Atlanta area; most recently, incorporation into Gwinnett County effective January 1st 2014

Griffin, Georgia is located in the U.S. state of Georgia and was established in 1807. It is a census-designated place (CDP) and has a population of 138 as of the 2010 census. Griffin's history dates back to 1807 when it was part of the Cherokee Nation. The town site was chosen by a group of men who traveled through the area on horseback in search for land to buy or develop. In 1811, ownership of Griffin passed from the Cherokee nation to an organization known as the Georgia Company, which purchased 1,200 acres (500 km2) north of present-day Griffin. The first settlers arrived in what is now Griffin in 1812 and began construction on a small log cabin called "The Fort". The first school in what is now Griffin was built here in 1814. By 1850, Griffins had become one of the most important communities within Georgian County with over 500 residents and two churches. However, during American Civil War II, much destruction took place throughout eastern Georgia due to military campaigns and raids by Union forces searching for Confederate munitions caches and supplies. Many homes were destroyed or burned down as result; however, some remain standing today including "The Fort" which still stands serving as community center/library and museum!
Griffin was founded in 1871 by a group of white farmers who named it after General William Griffin, the hero of the Battle of Wilson's Creek. The town grew rapidly throughout the early years, and by 1907 it had a population of over 1,500. In World War II, Griffin was one of several towns in Georgia that played an important role in the war effort. The town was attacked by Axis forces on December 16, 1941, but successful resistance led to the withdrawal of the enemy troops and no damage done to either side.
