Forest Park is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 11,868 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. Forest Park was founded by General Nathan Bedford Forrest in 1875 and named after Forrest's home state of Virginia. Forest Park is located on the eastern edge of Atlanta, just east of I-85 and south of Perimeter Highway. The park has over 80 acres (32 hectares) including 5 baseball diamonds, a playground, two tennis courts, a basketball court, and a football field as well as several picnic areas and hiking trails. There are also many beautiful trees in the park that provide shade during hot summer days or for picnics during cooler months. The city has made progress since it was established in 1975 with the purchase of land from Hartsfield–Jackson Airways and other businesses within the city limits to create Forest Park Boulevard which runs through the center of town and connects both Civic Center Drive (which leads to Peachtree Road), Lewis Ferry Road/Highway 2A (which leads to Midtown), Interstate 85 (which becomes Peachtree Road), Asbury Hills Drive/Highway 6A (which leads to Alpharetta Parkway) and nearby Interstates 75 and 285 which make up Piedmont Avenue NE/Interstate 95 interchange open-air shopping mall complex called "City Hall" adjacent to Gwinnett Mall across from Power Plant Arena on Decatur Street near downtown Atlanta with Eataly Italian restaurant next door opened as part of redevelopment project known as "Downtown Atlanta"

Forest Park is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 381 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Savannah metropolitan area. The original forest park in Forest Park was created by purchasing 7 acres (2 km²) of land from the Georgia Forestry Company on March 20, 1885. The park was named for George Washington Forrest, one of the first employees of the company. In 1905, a new forest park was built to serve as an addition to downtown Atlanta and became one of its most popular tourist destinations. In 1916, Forest Park formalized its municipal status when it adopted a charter and voted to become an independent city with its own government and mayor. On February 15, 1920 Mayor Waddell dedicated Forest Park's recreational facilities including a swimming pool and baseball diamond which were then regarded as some of the best in Atlanta. The first interracial marriage occurred in Forest Park when Ethel Mae Parks married John Henshaw on October 14, 1923. In 1941-1942 World War II saw an increase in bombings targeting targets within Atlanta; this led to Fort Snelling being built near what is now Elmhurst Boulevard east of I-285/I-5 south off US 85W just outside Of Forest Park limits minutes before American forces invaded Germany that day - resulting in over 160 civilian fatalities from German bombing raids during that conflict alone...It would be another 50 years until any major changes or construction took place on Fort Snelling itself other than minor repairs here and there until developers bought it back from the military for redevelopment into luxury apartments
On October 1, 1871, Forest Park was created from land that had been donated by the Georgia General Assembly. The park was named for Dr. Augustus H. Forest, a leading physician and supporter of public education in the state. The first president of the newly formed City of Atlanta annexed part of Forest Park on July 1, 1875.
