After this successful engagement, many Confederate officers and soldiers decided to move toFairburn, Georgia in order to continue their fight against the Union. This change in location fortuitously coincided with the start of Reconstruction in America following the Civil War. During Reconstruction, many African Americans were given opportunities to return to their homes and businesses in Fairburn. This resulted in a significant increase in black business ownership within the city limits. Additionally, black residents formed partnerships with white businesses throughout town. These partnerships allowed for white residents to access resources that they would not have otherwise had access to while also helping black businesses grow into successful entities. In 1969, Fairburn became part of Cobb County when it was created from portions of Fulton and Gwinnett Counties. As part of Cobb County’s growth strategy, it was decided thatFairburn should become one of its most important communities due its proximity to various county-wide services and infrastructure located within walking distance or less than driving distance from Fairborn citizens. In 1990, Fairburn incorporated as a municipal corporation which allowed for more centralized management and planning for local government functions within the municipality boundaries rather than being conducted through individual councilors who represented specific districts within the municipality boundaries

Fairburn is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 9,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County and home to the Fairburn Municipal Airport. The community was founded in 1892 by William Troup and his family as a small station on the Atlanta and Chattanooga Railroad. In 1906, Fairburn became an incorporated village with a legal government based on local election commissioners. By 1960, it had reached its current size of 7,500 residents. The cotton industry played an important role in early development of Fairburn. The area now known as Fairburn was part of Cherokee Nation before being bought by settlers from South Carolina in 1827. Under US Indian policy at that time, all Cherokee land east of the Tennessee River was confiscated and sold to white people for sale or cultivation. Cotton production began modestly in this area but soon became very important due to its high staple value and easy transportation across long distances. In 1892, William Troup established what would become Fairburn as a small station on the Atlanta and Chattanooga Railroad along the route between Chattanooga and Atlanta. The railroad depot served primarily as a stop for passengers traveling between these two cities; however, shortly after opening day there were already enough customers waiting at the station that Troup decided to open a restaurant/bar inside the depot which he called "The Gents." This operation grew quickly into one of Georgia's most successful businesses during this period; it continued operations until 1951 when it merged with another nearby business, The Horn & Hardin BBQ Company (now known as Big Boy BBQ), to form what is now known as Metro Barbecue LLC.; thoughMetro Barbecue still operated out of their original building until they moved into their new facility adjacent to Interstate 75 in 2001.) As different parts of Georgia developed more rapidly during this period*, so too did Fair burn*: by 1907 it boasted three banks* (the first being Trustees National Bank)*. The name "Fairburn" was derived from John Fairburn, one of the original settlers of the area. The town is home to several cultural attractions, including the Fairburn Folk Museum which features local artefacts and memorabilia from around the world; and the Mount Holyoke Museum of Art which features historical American paintings and sculptures from throughout history. In addition, there are several agricultural businesses located within walking distance of each other that offer farmers markets during summertime as well as guided tours of local farms during fall season.
