Doraville is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Doraville was laid out in 1885 by J. Neely Johnson and named for General David Doraville, who fought in the Mexican-American War and then served as governor of Georgia from 1881 to 1886. The first post office opened in 1886. The town grew rapidly after World War II because of its proximity to Atlanta and its status as an industrial center for defense contractor McDonnell Douglas. In the late 1990s, however, Borland Corporation closed its corporate headquarters here and many jobs were lost due to suburban development around it. The population has declined since 2000 when it peaked at 1,922; however, there are still few businesses that have closed within the town limits since then other than two health care clinics which are now managed by McKesson HealthCare Solutions Inc., a subsidiary of AmerisourceBergen Incorporated (NYSE:MSI). Today, most people in Doraville live within a radius of 5 miles (8 km). There are no schools in or near Doraville; however, churches provide daycare and swimming lessons for children while parents work outside the home during their lunch hours or evening hours. A Master's degree or higher is generally required to hold a job here; nevertheless numerous local businesses offer apprenticeship opportunities through local organizations such as arts and crafts stores or carpenters association memberships program which allow residents access to quality skilled labor during off-peak times when demand may be lower elsewhere. Doraville is a small town in unincorporated Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 2,581 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Athens–Clarke Combined Statistical Area. The community was founded by John Doraville on July 3, 1820 as a result of the Treaty of Paris after the American Civil War. It was named for him. In 1874, it became an independent city and remained so until 1959 when it merged with Athens to form Athens–Clarke. The town's first school was built in 1827 and its first store opened in 1830. A post office was established in 1830 and service began with letters mailed from Doraville to Athens three times each week. In 1865, Union General William Troup arrived in Doraville with elements of his 1st Alabama Infantry regiment and set up camp nearby while he trained his troops for battle against Confederate General Robert Ewell's army near Gaines Mill River Crossing. Afterward, Troup returned to Hancockville where he remaining until his death on October 27th that year at age seventy-six years old according to one source; however others put his death date closer to November 10th or 11th due to chronic health problems which led him back and forth between Hancockville and Atlanta more than once during the summer months permission had been granted by President Andrew Johnson for him stay at Morristown plantation near Duluth while he healed before returning home on October 27th 1865 according to local historian Clyde Couchman who also notes that this date may have been inaccurate because Johnson’s records do not list any military engagements taking place around Gaines Mill during that month other than a check given out for supplies necessary for troops besieging Fort Pulaski which took place on October 20th 1865 according to public records). In fact Robert Ewell did not siege Fort Pulaski but skirmished inside it against Federal forces under Major General George Thomas within days of Troup's arrival although there are still questions about what really happened at Gaines Mill that day as most sources agree that there were no real hostilities taking place around town other than a possible misunderstanding caused by Confederate soldiers trying to cross into Federal territory without proper authority (see: "Forrest Pulaski - History vs Myth" article) . John Doraville died on July 3rd 1820 aged 73 years old after suffering from chronic health problems since shortly after arriving back home from war with Robert Ewell (see: "John Doraville - Life & Times" article). His tomb can be found buried near the intersection of Old Town Road/High Street & Third Avenue east of downtown where many buildings used to stand including The Post Office building which now houses offices part time and parts time occupied by the Georgia Department Of Natural Resources; Seaweed restaurant built in 1905-1906 next door which has been converted into apartments; Spring Garden Baptist Church built 1912- 1913 next door also used as an apartment building until 1981 when it burned down leaving only foundations standing today; finally two homes located further down Old Town Road one dating back from 1904 known locally as “the house with four stories” which is currently being leased out as an event space by Live Oak Heritage Park LLC (see: "Doraville history timeline - What you need TO know" article) . On July 3rd 1820 John Doraville erected a log cabin containing five rooms + side porch [1] just outside present day town limits northeast of downtown approximately along present day High Street offOld Town Rd./Third Ave., east of current city hall complex boundaries (now part of new city hall annexe), northwest corner lot originally belonging privately To Wm Huggins landowner northeast corner lots previously belonged To Chas Page prior owner unknown... Original site included swampy ground overgrown contemporary sites developed mostly residential Traffic circle consisting 4 large roundabouts surrounded largely by trees center contains two large asphalt driveways intersecting streets NW & SE approximately midway between original location & modern lots residences located throughoutCTRL below street level
