West Melbourne is a town located in Miami County, Florida, United States. The population was 13,919 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The land that makes up West Melbourne was first settled by Seminoles in the early 1800s. In 1907, entrepreneur and developer Hernando de Soto bought 1/2 mile (3 km) of land east of present-day US Highway 27 and began developing it into what is today known as West Melbourne Township. On July 6, 1912, he donated one-half acre (0.18 km²) of his land to the City of Miami for use as a parkland Lots 4 and 5 within city limits. This donation marked the beginning of what would become West Melbourne's long and proud history as a community dedicated to its citizens and their surrounds - an approach which has been seen in other places throughout South Florida such as Fort Lauderdale and Coral Gables. On December 8, 1959, while still under construction on I-95 northbound between Everglades Boulevard and US-27 in Broward County near Aventura Airport, Interstate 95 collapsed due to severe weather conditions over Miami Lakes Regional Park just south of downtown West Melbourne Township; this event became known as "I-95 Collapse". As a result of this tragedy many homes were destroyed or damaged including those located in lot 4 & 5 off NW corner First St., now home to Peebles Restaurant & Lounge who sustained heavy damage from fire & smoke& water damage; also lost were 3 horses which had been grazing on property next door (& 2 more housed at nearby stable). In ensuing years much hard work was put into reconstruction with help from local businesses & individuals along with continued support from state legislators who passed legislation providing financial assistance for post-collapse recovery efforts including making repairs to infrastructure not just within city limits but also neighboring townships such as Dade County proper where similar failures had occurred previously. The new community west of I-595 we call "Fox Valley" motto being "For All Seasons", sprang up quickly vowing always to be welcoming to all regardless race or creed - something that continues even today despite some recent challenges faced by select members thereof due mainly amongst younger residents who often identify more with their social media platforms rather than traditional physical surroundings/community interaction channels like face time & family visits etc.; yet they are always willing & able to lend an ear if needed!

West Melbourne, Florida was a small town in south-central Florida on the Tampa Bay coast. It is now a suburb of Tampa. The population of West Melbourne in 2010 was 2,812. The town was founded by German immigrants in 1892 as a fishing village on the tip of an island near what is now Clearwater Beach. The name "West Melbourne" came from the fact that the main thoroughfare through the town was called "Victoria Avenue." In 1907, West Melbourne became part of Hillsborough County and its boundaries widened to include Pinellas County to the north and east, and St Petersburg to the west. In 1922, Hillsborough County merged with Pasco County to form Everglades National Park. In 1925, West Melbourne became an independent city and adopted a new charter under which it divided its powers between City Council and Mayor. On July 1, 1959, West Melbourne merged with Tampa (then municipal district) to become one municipality with a single mayor and councilmember. It has since been renamed Lakeland after developer Orlando Urban Land Company's purchase of all but 137 acres (59 ha) of land including what is now downtown Tampa from John Atherton for $2 million in 1963; Atherton then donated most of that land back to Hillsborough County for development into what is now Downtown Tampa.
