The Naval Sea Systems Command (NSSC) is the largest and most diverse naval warfare system in the world. It includes more than 120,000 sailors and marines who contribute to operations in more than 50 countries worldwide. The NSSC's shipyards are located in South Daytona, Florida, where they build warships for the U.S., Great Britain, Japan, France, Italy, Spain, China and other nations. The history of the navy gift trade begins with HMS Beagle. Captain Charles Darwin sailed on HMS Beagle during his travels around Australia in 1836-37 as part of a scientific expedition organized by Vice Admiral John Jervis. While on board Beagle, Darwin made some remarkable observations about natural ecosystems that would later be used to support British military campaigns in Africa and India. In 1839-40 Commodore James Cook joined Cook's first Expedition to find new worlds at sea. He was followed by Lieutenant Commander George Vancouver on HMS Discovery (1841). In 1845-46 Commodore James Watts commanded USS Constitution (1846). South Daytona's first Naval Shipyard was built at Yacht Harbour Place in 1907 by Cession & Company Limited under contract from Rear Admiral Royal Navy H M Laing RN.. This yard produced destroyers for both the Admiraltymarine Defence Squadron 1 (HMS Liverpool) and for Fleet Air Arm Patrol squadron No 2 which was based at RAF Old Sarum airfield near Salisbury Plain,. During World War II there were three main yards: Vauxhall Dockyard - constructed submarines S2/S4; Woking Dockyard - built Landing ships Infantry LIs(LSTs), Torpedo Boats Pte(TBM), Aircraft Carriers Captain Harcourt VC; Portsmouth Dockyard - built cruisers HMAS Canberra (1944), HMAS Sydney (1945), HMAS Melbourne 1943-1945; Scapa Flow 1945-. Post-war repairs continued until 1951 when all but one yard closed down due to lack of demand from navies worldwide following the end of World War II

South Daytona is a city in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,792 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that became South Daytona was first settled by white pioneers in 1836. The community name was given to it by General James K. Polk because of its location on the mouth of the Volusia River and because it had been precariously situated on a peninsula between two salt watersmeetings. By 1900, local developers had built up the town to a sleepy beachside town with a population of 100 people and an economy based largely on agriculture and fishing. In 1922, local developer Harry Hirsch submitted plans for what would become South Daytona Boulevard which would run through the heart of town from Northwest Avenue to Palm Street In 1925, he renamed his development "South Daytona" after himself and also named several streets in honor of prominent citizens in the community such as Judge John Tillinghast and Dr. Oscar Wickersham. This inaugurated an era of high-density development along this well-maintained artery that continues to this day In 1951, large portions of Volusia County were annexed into Miami Dade County as part of efforts to create more compact areas for suburban growth within Miami Beach proper In 1966, South Daytona's annexation into Miami Beach again created problems with zoning laws which limited growth potential along this corridor In 1972, following years of campaigning by Mayor Joe Riggs (D), voters approved Measure I which authorized annexation by South Daytona if certain conditions were met including disapproval from Miami Beach residents who felt their neighborhoods were being lost without compensation

Dyson was responsible for leading the charge towards greater naval efficiency during World War II and played a decisive role in developing torpedoes and aircraft carrier strike groups. His work on creating improved shipbuilding techniques also helped contribute to Allied victory in WWII.

South Daytona, Florida is a small town located in Volusia County, Florida. The population was 1,812 at the 2000 census. South Daytona is home to the Volusia County Naval Base and the state capitol of Florida. In addition to its naval base and state capitol, other attractions in South Daytona include two amusement parks—Marquette Park and Osceola Park—and a regional shopping center. The area that now makes up South Daytona was first settled by Native Americans in the early eighteenth century. English colonists established a trading post here in 1763, and by 1800 it had become an important seaport on the mouth of the St Johns River. By 1810, however, Spanish settlers had taken over this key port and development here slowed until after Seminole Wars when steamboats began reaching South Daytona from Jacksonville for shipment of citrus fruit and other goods from Tampa Bay. After Reconstruction following the Civil War ended with slavery abolished statewide in 1865, businesses resumed operations but growth stagnated until annexation by Volusia County in 1907 made room for another county seat (Daytona) without affecting industry or population size. In 1911–13 construction began on what would become known as "The Wall" – an innovative public works programdesigned to spur economic development around Miami Beach through job creation and new housing developments; it eventually became one of America's most successful public works projects ever completed while also sparking significant civic pride throughout its host community. In 1916 both Daytonas merged into one entity under the name "Volusia County", which grew rapidly due to agricultural production brought about by prohibition laws that limited alcoholic sales once alcohol became legal nationwide following ratification of Prohibition in 1920 (the first such nation-wide ban). This period also saw major architectural renovations including additions to both local courthouses – including The Hall at Marquette Park (1924), built atop an existing fortification dating back to Indian Wars days; as well as Parks Department buildings at Osceola Park (1927) – making this region one of the leading cultural hot spots of its day overall despite having only 3 percent white residents compared with more than 50 percent black ones [1]. On October 15, 1922, South Daytona was incorporated as a town. The first official meeting of the town was held on November 4, 1922. South Daytona is named after the southernmost point in Florida and its namesake - the Sir Richard M. Jameson House. The house was built in 1892 by Richard M. Jameson and his wife Augusta Fenton on land that they donated to the town. Jameson served as mayor from 1903-1905 and again from 1912-1920. In 1925, South Daytona renamed itself "Downtown South Daytona". In 1941, it became an unincorporated community once again due to lack of development interest in it. In 1963, Downtown South Daytona was reincorporated into the city of Miami Beach as part of a merger between Miami Beach and Broward County which also merged with Palm Beach County to form the State ofFloridaCentral Region region including all of south central Florida
