The United States Army had its beginnings in 1775 when Captain James Cook of the British Royal Navy founded Fort George on Palm Beach Island in Miami. The fort was later renamed Fort Worth and, in 1854, it became Camp Chase. In 1909, the United States acquired Guam from Spain and Camp Chase becameFort Brooke. On September 15, 1951, Fort Brooke was redesignatedCamp Rockledge and it is now part of the U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Pierce Naval Base. In 1924, the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) were formed as a result of World War I and Camp Chase soon became their headquarters camp located on Everglades National Park property just outside of Tampa Bay. It was during this time that General Douglas MacArthur first served with the AEF as an intelligence officer before eventually becoming its commander in chief during World War II. In 1945, he again returned to command at Camp Chase after Japan's surrender but his tenure there came to an end two years later when he was transferred to Tokyo-to lead U.S.-sponsored military operations against postwar Japan throughout Korea and then Allied Control Areas in Southeast Asia as Supreme Commander for South East Asia under President Harry Truman until his death in 1948. In 1957, Camp Chase changed its name once more when it become home to Headquarters Battery (HBS) 5th Artillery Regiment which traces its origins back to Company A (1st Battalion) 314th Field Artillery Regiment which arrived at Fort Worth Municipal Airport on December 8, 1944 from Ft Bliss near Austin Texas following World War II service with the Seventh Army California Division where they participated in Operation Overlord prior to their move northeastward along I Corps Tactical Zone towards Seoul where they relieved elements of Third Infantry Division arriving early November 1945 weathering continuous enemy fire while crossing several Rivers including Taedong River en route code-named “Operation Wichita” Aftermath:On January 1st 1946 over 200 Japanese prisoners of war were liberated by members of HBS 5th Artillery Regiment who fought nonstop all day until evening despite being targetted daily by 3 inch artillery rounds; resulting in 9 confirmed WIA plus many injured and missing since 6am start Company A 315th Engrs Rgt departed USAAF base Randolph TX Apr 4 1945 for duty with SeventhArmy California Division European Theater Of Operations On arrival back at Ft Brooke activatedJun 1945 within Corp Separate Plt OrderedSeparate unit training hereuntil disbandedMay 1946 due to Reorganization

Rockledge is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 6,890 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Rockledge was John Wesley Winters who arrived in 1841. He named his land "Wintersville" after himself and his brother-in-law, James Witherspoon. In 1844, Samuel Stephens moved from Georgia to Broward County and homesteaded on what is now the eastern edge of Rockledge. By 1865, when annexation by Miami Dade County was approved, most of what is now Rockledge had been developed as a citrus orchards and farmlands with some scattered homes established around that time. Rockledge's history begins with the arrival of an American military expedition led by General Andrew Jackson on February 24th1865 while service in Mexico was ending; this group included soldiers and marines under Major General Winfield Scott including future President Ulysses S. Grant and Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Saint Clair (future Governor of Florida). They were looking for new land to annex as part of their campaign to gain control over Mexico City following its overthrow by Mexican president Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna In 1898, when organized crime became rampant throughout South Florida due to Cuban immigration into South Florida through Tampa Bay area ports of entry then controlled by Cuba - many farmers abandoned their crops to flee Havana prices soaring) during the Spanish American War efforts were made at various points along US/Cuba borders to bring back displaced farm families but all attempts failed until groups such as Operation Crossroads were mounted successfully against Fidel Castro's Cuba in 1961 . On May 10th1959 Dr Honorato Jimenez , owner of Jimenez’s Elephante Cafeteria on A1A southbound between NW 14th St & NE First Ave called for backup after shots were fired out front which he believed may have been fireworks being used by Cubans celebrating Cuban freedom from Spanish rule responded with his own private security force consisting of three men armed only with pistols
Rockledge is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Area. The Rockledge Post Office was established in 1892, and closed in 1979. Rockledge is located at (27.527813, -81.045484). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. The town began as an agricultural community and grew into a small town due to its location on Pensacola Bay and access to sugarcane fields that supplied Tampa and other cities with sugar for local consumption.
