The Palmetto Bay National Guard was first organized in 1923. At that time, the Florida Legislature authorized the creation of a national guard to provide security for state dignitaries and other important citizens traveling in and out of the state. The first national guard unit was composed of 154 men from Palm Beach County. The unit patrolled the local beaches and waterways, providing law enforcement services on inland waterways and at international crossings. In 1933, a second national guard unit was created comprising 320 men from Palm Beach County and Broward County. This unit patrolled alligator populations inlet areas as well as military installations along the west coast of Florida. In 1938, a third national guard battalion was established with 1,200 soldiers from Miami-Dade County. This battalion patrolled major coastal cities including Coral Gables, Fort Lauderdale, Key West, Daytona Beach, Naples and Tampa among others. From 1940 to 1944, the Florida legislature passed legislation authorizing the establishment of an artillery regiment within the national guard system. The regiment became operational on October 1st 1940 with 108 enlisted men from Miami-Dade County under command of Major General James A Cushman Jr.. Throughout World War II (1939-1945), Palmetto Bay's National Guard earned numerous awards for its heroism and service to our country including citations for bravery at sea and land; participation in amphibious assaults against Japanese positions at Guam; support during air raids on Jacksonville; participation in combat operations throughout Europe; distinction as one of only two counties in Florida to issue pink driving licences to soldiers serving overseas (the other being Monroe); establishment of a veterans hospital specifically for Guardsmen stationed in various parts of America; selection by President Truman as oneamong nineteen organizations selected to participatein his Operation Neptune’s Spear forces campaign against Nazi Germany). On December 8th 1946 - just three months after VE Day - Captain Edward J Ellis led 125 Marines ashore onto shore near Cape Canaveral while Commandant J L Stroud supervised naval gunfire support activities offshore following an attack by enemy submarines offshore which killed nine Marines and wounded more than twenty-six seamen aboard USS Constitution (CVA-38). Since its inception over eighty years ago - whenPalmetto Bay's National Guard playeda vital rolein keeping our community safe - this organization has gone through many changes both big & small spanning across generations!

Palmetto Bay is a town in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. The population was 12,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–St. Johns County metropolitan area. Palmetto Bay was founded in 1853 by Colonel John Swayne and his wife Anna as an agricultural community on a peninsula that includes present-day Jaxson Beach and parts of St. Johns County. The name may derive from the palmetto tree (Locustrum palmatum) that grows plentifully in the area, which may have been what first alerted early settlers to its valuable fruit trees. Today, Palmetto Bay's economy revolves around its proximity to Interstate 495 and its navigable waterways; its beaches are popular with tourists and locals alike for their clear water and white sand beaches; and its many local businesses provide services such as fishing, boating, retailing, food service, lodging and more.
The National Guard played an important role in the United States during both World War I and World War II. The National Guard was activated on September 20, 1915, when President Woodrow Wilson called for a national armed forces. The first unit to be mobilized was the 124th Infantry Regiment, which had been assembled from state militias. In 1916, the National Guard contributed troops to the American Expeditionary Force in Europe and served as a military intelligence corps. In 1940, the Army formed two divisions of the National Guard; one constituted mostly of reservists and another made up of active duty soldiers from all over the country. In 1941, Congress passed legislation authorizing the formation of units for service in overseas campaigns under subtitles such as "the日本軍" (Japanese army) or "the U.S. Army's Third Division". On September 2, 1941, these new divisions were organized into three brigades each: 1st Brigade became Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHHC), 2nd Brigade became 8th Infantry Brigade (8IB), 3rd Brigade became 9th Infantry Brigade (9IB). Each brigade Combat Team consisted of three infantry battalions and one artillery battalion. Additionally, each brigade also contained support units such as engineers and signalsmen. These brigades were ordered to assemble at Fort Worth if they were called into federal service within 24 hours after mobilization orders reached them. On December 15, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor resulting in America entering World War II with over 100 million citizens enlisted in uniform across all branches of government including the National Guard! Although there is no definitive history on gift giving by members of the National Guard during World War II due to various governments prohibiting any open records access thereto or even moreso because many gifts may have been destroyed or lost during Holocaust-era conflicts between Allies/Nations that remain classified today,[1] evidence suggests that member gift tradition continued well past Pearl Harbor with some recipients having received multiple gifts throughout hostilities:[2][3] This trend can be seen through various commemorative items awarded to servicemen/women who have participated in wartime actions or are memorialized with plaque or statue recognition[4]: examples include Military Medal(s)/Medal(es)/Award(s) recipient’s name placed upon WWI-era battlefield epitaph; Service Crosses/Crosses posthumously bestowed upon fallen WWII heroes; Commemorative Medals issued annually by respective states honoring Guardsmen killed while serving therein (e.g., California’s “Golden State Warriors” Unit); Decorated Homes/Homes owned/leased by respective Governors Posthumously awarding Governors Presidential Unit Citation(s)); etcetera indicative of continuing military appreciation long after those individuals have passed away... [T]he national guard has never ceased its contributions to our society - whether it be through donations or selfless service... Palmetto Bay is a small town located in Jacksonville, Florida. The bay was named for the palmetto trees that grow on its shores. In 1818, Captain James Cook discovered Palmetto Bay while exploring theFlorida Keys. As this area was part of Spanish Florida, the name "Palmetto" was not given to it until after American annexation of the territory in 1898. The first European to visit PalmettoBay was Juan Ponce de Leon in 1513 when he explored and surveyed what would become Jacksonville. The channel that now separates Tampa and Jacksonville were created when two branches of the St. Johns River merged about 12 miles (19 km) north of today's town center. The land upon which Palmetto Bay now rests was purchased by Colonel John Smith from Governor Juana Mosqueda in 1794 and developed into a resort community for English traders and military personnel stationed along Tampa Bay during America's sugarcane boom years. In 1818, Captain James Cook discovered Palmetto Bay while exploring the Florida Keys and named it after his ship, HMS Resolution because those who sailed over its surface had seen "a great tree standing out like a large post from behind some shoals of rocks." After American annexation of Spanish-held territory in 1898, Federal authorities renamed everything east of Estero as part of an effort to promote Hispanic immigration into newly acquired territories. At first only men were admitted into Florida; but by 1907 women could also live there without restriction except for childbirth or marriage within three months of arrival. This policy changed when Florida became a state in 1907 and women gained voting rights together with men under the new Constitution; however, their legal status remains unchanged today as both citizens and residents according to Article V Section 5 Chapter 2 Of The United States Constitution
The Palmetto Bayou connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. It was originally a natural salt water body that drained into the sea. The area now known as Florida was first populated by Native American tribes before being claimed by Spain in 1504. The Spanish built Fort Myers for their military forces in 1765 and then began developing this area into a major trade center due to its rich phosphate resources. In 1821, the United States acquired Florida from Spain and made it a part of the United States. The bayou has been used for fishing, shipping, and agriculture ever since.
