The history of the Palatka Shooter gift is one that dates back to at least 1912. That year, a group of men from Palatka gathered around the idea of starting their own shooting club. They named their club the "Palatka Riflemen" and began meeting every other month to shoot baskets, fish, or just have some fun. The club quickly grew and by 1916 had organized itself into a regular shooting society. The Palatka Riflemen were known for being good shooters, and as such were often given medals and prizes for their accomplishments. In 1919, they won first place in an annual competition held in Daytona Beach. At this event, they also received a rifle from the United States government in recognition of their excellence. From then on, the Palatka Riflemen would regularly compete against other societies throughout Florida and even beyond. They would also attend international competitions where they would earn awards such as first place at a national championships held in Philadelphia in 1921. Eventually, the club became so successful that it decided to move its operations out of town and start all over again under new leadership with new members and a new goal: To continue promoting Shooting through education opportunities both within our organization and beyond our borders. To this day, the Palatka Riflemen remain one of America's most successful Shooting Societies with chapters throughout Florida and beyond!

Palatka is a small town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population of Palatka was 2,929 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The town began as a Spanish settlement in 1795 and was named for José de la Palma, Marqués de Palatka y Velasco, who served as governor of Cuba from 1785 to 1789. The first white settler in Palatka was Joseph Catanzaro and his family who arrived on November 3, 1839. In 1841, John Catanzaro settled here with his wife and six children. On January 12th 1861, General James Longstreet's Confederate cavalry surprised and destroyed the Union forces at the Battle of Gaines's Bay under the command of Colonel Thomas J. Worths while Lieutenant George Hirschfeld led an attack that resulted in two killed and five wounded on the right flank near what is now known as Old Fort Lauderdale beach Boulevard. By 1870 there were over 100 residents in Palatka with about 60% being Irish American Catholics and 30% English Protestants including many Baptists (around 10%). Palatka is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee-Port Orange metropolitan area. The name "Palta" means "fortress." The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Palatka were Dutch colonists who named it Fort Nieuw Amsterdam after their new city in Rotterdam, Netherlands. In 1763, Englishman James Grant purchased land east of Fort Nieuw Amsterdam and renamed it Palatka after his home town of Palm Beach on the Atlantic Coast of South America. However, English settlers did not establish permanent settlements here until 1824 when General Andrew Jackson moved his army from Mobile to take control of Spanish Florida under Ulysses S. Grant as part of the American Revolution against Spain. In 1827, Palatka became a within Jacksonville Township when that township was created from lands that had been included in Indian Creek Township by an act of Congress following the Seminole War (1812-1813). By 1830, only about 350 people lived in Palatka; however, by 1840 its population hadgrown to 1,500 residents and by 1850 it had reached 2,000; growth continued through the antebellum period until rapid population growth during World War II caused many residences and businesses to be erected on old Indian Creek Road which bisected present day downtown Palatka between Third Street and Fifth Street before bypassing those streets altogether and continuing north along State Road A1A (now Old US 301) to the southern edge ofbrowseable county limits – all without any streetlights or traffic signals! This busy arterial roadway provided easy access for military personnel and locals alike who traveled southbound or northbound on I-4 through today’s downtown while business owners put up billboards advertising their services! During much of this time period there were few public buildings outside the homes of local landowners – a situation gradually changing with increasing suburbanization during postwar years until today’s major shopping center located just east off I-4 near State Road 436 occupies most former rural areas within city boundaries! Downtown redevelopment plans call for expanding McCoy Water Park into contiguous parcels adjoining existing neighborhoods [which would provide easy vehicular access], reopening Main Event Pavilion [+ originally built as an arena], creating separate pedestrian thoroughfares running concurrently northeast/southwest across core blocks adjacent to existing commercial districts [+ now mostly residential!] …[including] demolition or renovationof old fashioned fireplaces found primarily in older rural areas adjacentto coreslant developments adjoining downtown – making way for more widespread utilizationof air conditioning facilities over summer resultingin cooler weather months! Although some opposition exists among some citizens over proposals that could change zoning laws governing building heights (+ allowing taller buildings but keeping them confined within certain zones), development will continue unabated regardless because increasingly people want more out lives than just locate where they live today!"
In 1868, the Palatka and Chattahoochee Railroad was completed. The railroad ran from Jacksonville, Florida to Maitland, Florida and served as a link between Jacksonville and Mobile. By 1872, the railroad had reached Tampa and was renamed the Tampa & St Petersburg Railway. In 1907, the railway merged with another railroad to form the Tampa Bay Railway. The railway continued to operate until 1974 when it became part of CSX Transportation.
