In 1901, Palatka became the first town in Florida to have a coffee plantation. The coffee plants grew quickly and soon there were many coffee roasters operating in the town. In 1930, Palatka became an official city and coffee production stopped. However, until recently, Palatka has been known as one of the most important coffee-producing towns in Florida. The history of fresh roasted coffee starts with Gabriel García Márquez who grew up on a farm near Palatka and started drinking espresso from his grandfather’s house when he was just 12 years old. After studying atColumbia University where he met future Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez (later known as Chavez), García Márquez decided to start his own business importing Italian roast beans from Rome while still working on graduate studies at Columbia University Law School in New York City. He opened his own grocery store called El Cementerio which specialized exclusively in espresso after moving to Caracas, Venezuela in 1967 where he would stay until 1990 when he returned to Colombia permanently due to political unrest there (he remains a dual citizen of both countries). In addition to providing delicious beverages like horchata and cappuccinos, El Cementerio served as an incubator for new Colombian businesses such as Illicito Coffee Company (founded by Chávez's son Raúl) and La Taza de Bogotá (founded by Fernando Vallejo). illicito Coffees turned into Starbucks before Starbucks bought Illicito Coffee for $1 million back then worth about $14 million today While Garcia Márquez may have started off small with just 2 carsful of bean shipped all over Latin America each week, it wasn't long before others followed suit or even surpassed him with their own stores throughout South America; this led eventually down what we now know as "the Cafeteria Row". Palatka, Florida is located in the state of Florida and it was founded on December 22nd, 1861. It is a small town that is home to over 20,000 people. The town was named after the Palatka River which is located in southern Florida. The town was originally built as a plantation and it has been around since the early 1800s. The town started to grow during the 1930s when African Americans were brought to Palatka from other parts of the US to work on plantations. After World War II, Palatka became an important center for black workers in south Florida. The town has also become known for its many shopping malls and its beaches.
On December 6, 1892, a group of men from Palatka, Florida, organized the first town in that area. The name was changed to Palatka on February 3, 1893. The population of Palatka was only three people when it incorporated as a town. By 1907 the population had grown to twenty-six people and by 1915 it had reached seventy-six people. In 1925 the number of residents increased to ninety-one and in 1935 it topped one hundred. On January 1, 1942 the community became part of Tallahassee County and on May 1st of that year its citizens were allowed to vote for their own municipal government. As part of the Tallahassee Municipal Act No. 2 of 1942, all male citizens over eighteen years old were required to attend public meetings and be registered with the municipality before they could participate in politics or hold any office within it. The first female Mayor of Palatka was Mrs. Lillian Pritchett who served from 1944 until her retirement on October 14th, 1951. On November 10th 1959 Palatka City Council voted 5-2 to base city services instead at a new central office which would have been located in downtown Palatkaswegianne which is now known as City Hall Square
