As dusk fell that night, many members of the division had already died or were injured during this fierce battle for control over Benghazi Airport. Despite heavy losses sustained during their engagement with the enemy, elements of the281st Infantry Division managed to make it back to their original positions within hours after engaging in what is considered one of America’s most successful amphibious assaults ever carried out against Nazi Germany’s Afrika Korps Headquarters in Libya (Operation Husky). The 281st Infantry Division played an integral role in this operation by helping deploy American forces across five African countries – largest such expeditionary campaign by any country since World War Two; however it would be its largest casualty toll as only six percent (of total strength) survived transport ashore due primarily to combat fatigue and disease endemic among American troops then living outside Europe at that time."

In 1933, Drs. Augustus Fenton and Lewis Hill bought land next to where Gardens Recreation Area now stands – this land would become known as "Hillcrest". This remained Oaktown until it was annexed by Fort Lauderdale in 1961 when it became part of Broward County! The first post office for Oakland Park opened in 1893 (it closed two years later). The first store open here was a general store run by Simeon Pemberton which closed in 1901 due to lack of customers! A bakery also opened here shortly thereafter – this business operated intermittently until 1914 when it too closed because no one could afford to buy goods necessary for baking! There were only three residences built here before World War II: One served as a military barracks during World War II; another housed officers working at Ft Myers Air Force Base; while the last house dated back to 1924 but has never been preserved or currently used! After WWII ended, most residents left for various reasons such as job opportunities available outside Broward County or established communities closer to Interstate 95/US 1 with easier access than living within walking distance of both Ft Myers AFB and South Plantation Golf Course; however some returned over time including Anna Newton who ran her own grocery store from her home (now gone) along Sunrise Boulevard from 1948 until her death in 1978! In 1992, Old City lost its water supply when Hurricane Andrew destroyed much nearby infrastructure resulting in widespread power outages lasting several days; however no damage was done to any homes or businesses inside Old City thanks largely to quick response efforts led by local volunteers who rebuilt whatever had been damaged! From then on through 2006 there have been periodic Intermittent Watermain replacement events taking place annually just outside old city boundaries complete with full disclosure prior thereto so that owner(s) thereof can maintain sidewalks/driveways etc.– making this an increasingly livable community once again despite intermittent outages caused primarily by weather conditions)! Today’s community features well-maintained streetscape typical of barrier free communities located near water & airports!! A large park exists downtown including a playground, basketball courts, tennis courts & more!!!

Oakland Park is a community located in south-central Broward County, Florida, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Fort Lauderdale. The population was 8,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Plantation Beach–Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood area. The name "Oakland Park" was given to it by Major General James K. Polk in 1868 when he acquired 1,000 acres (400 m²) of land from José Bárcenas and others in what is now Oakland Park. The community was established on October 10, 1868, when the first post office was opened there by Colonel John Purdy with three letters printed on cards. In 1905, Hacienda de la Cantera became the first sugar plantation in Broward County and its employees were transferred to Oakland Park from La Cantera on November 15th that year. In 1916 two new schools were built: one for white students and one for colored students which remain in use to this day as both elementary and secondary schools. On February 14th 1928 a tornado touched down near Oakland Park killing four people within minutes and causing extensive damage throughout the town including extensive loss of roofs, walls and trees; over $5 million worth of property was destroyed or damaged statewide).
