The North Port National Guard is a community-wide volunteer force founded in 1934. It was activated to help protect the people of North Port during the Depression and World War II. Today, the National Guard provides law enforcement, security and support to more than 650 military, local government and civic organizations across Florida. The guard has an important role in keeping our communities safe by providing an emergency response capability should something happen in one of our neighborhoods. National Guard members have played a significant role in history throughout Florida. For example, they fought in both World Wars as part of the United States military; during the Civil Rights Movement; and during Hurricane Allison in 1995. In 2007, it was decided that the guard would receive its own insignia for commemorating 100 years since it was first activated on November 14th, 1934. The insignia is a blue enameled shield with a gold star inside each point that represent all of the branches of service that have been associated with this organization over time. The Northport National Guard Museum is open statewide from 9am-4pm every day except for Thanksgiving Day (10am-3pm). Admission is free for all visitors! There are several displays about national guard history which include items such as uniforms, weapons and equipment, photos and artifacts from when members served locally or overseas. There are also demonstrations about patriotic tasks you can do to support your community’s national guard presence including donating money or goods to charity auctions or feeding soldiers at Camp Lemonnier while they are deployed abroad!

For example, Guardsmen receive free health insurance and other special benefits while on active duty; they are also able to use their skills for civilian work if needed (such as teaching school or working at local hospitals). Additionally, members can join organizations such as Boy Scouts or Girls Scouts for fun and social activities – both inside and outside of combat zones. Overall, being a part of the National Guard provides an incredible level of patriotism and service – something that seems very difficult to find these days in our society. In 1944, gifts became a part of the National Guard's social welfare program called "Golden Age Gifts." The program offered civilian volunteers special access to military-grade equipment and supplies which they could use to help improve social programs for civilians.

In 1907, North Port became home to the world’s first permanent steel mill which produced cannons for American forces during World War I. In 1953, Northport completed its first ever indoor shopping mall with over 100 stores including Macy’s, Sears & Roebuck, JCPenny and 20 other retailers. Today North Port remains an important economic center in Pinellas County with over $5 billion in exports generated annually.

The Guard is made up of civilians and military personnel from state governments and their respective police, fire departments, and other agencies. These individuals are called to duty in times of national crisis or when there is an emergency at home or abroad. Some of the earliest examples of the National Guard in America can be traced back to Colonial days when militias were used to protect settlements on Long Island. Militia service was also common in the early years of this country after British settlers arrived. The Militia Act of 1792 authorized citizens from all parts of Massachusetts to unite into regiments for service in wartime. During the Revolutionary War, militia units were used by New England Patriots as well as by George Washington himself. In fact, Washington ordered his entire army to march on Boston on April 18, 1775, only to have it disbanded hours later because so many men had already joined the British Army! AfterWARDESS Regimental Officers Association (ERO) was formed in order to provide continuity between colonial militiamen and post-Revolutionary American forces–a process that continued until 1800 AD! In 1812, President James K Polk signedinto law an act authorizing members of Territorial Marine detachments along the Pacific Coast “to serve without pay” during certain periods while under US military jurisdiction due to “the public safety” concerns. This act would become known as the California Regula

North Port was founded on November 12, 1875 by the Knights of Columbus. It is located in Fort Myers County, Florida and became a city on November 3, 1907. The population of North Port was over 100,000 in 1940. The port was used to transport goods from the mainland United States to its Caribbean sister cities such as Santo Domingo and Trinidad. In 1969 it closed but reopened in 1984 as a container port serving the Gulf coast region of Florida andSouth Carolina. In 2006 it merged with Miami Beach to form the largest city-state merger in United States history. NorthPort has since become an economic center for Central Florida with a diverse range of businesses including tourism, retail, health care and other services.
The area now known as North Port was first settled by the Apalachee tribe in the late 18th century. The town was founded by Capt. John Smith in 1794, and soon became a major trading center for the region. The town is also notable for its large shipbuilding industry, which helped to contribute to Florida's growth as a state. North Port was eventually annexed by Jacksonville in 1875, and remains an important local community today.
