The New Port Richey National Guard Museum is affiliated with the Florida National Guard, and has been in operation since 1978. The museum has a collection of items related to the military and national guard history in the city. The museum was founded by Mayor Bob Lichtenberg and First Lt. John Beasley to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the city’s incorporation as a town on October 15, 1978. At that time, there were only 10 active members of the Florida National Guard in New Port Richey. The City Council dedicated $1,000 towards acquiring artifacts from local military installations in order to display at the museum. In 1984, Congressman Bill Posey donated an old World War II bomber to be used as a donation truck for use by the town’s citizens who collected donations for veterans’ charities. In 1989, then-Mayor Lichtenberg presented U.S. Senator Anhalt Albin Hansen with a gift from Mayor Bob Lichtenberg consisting of two sets of American flagspole poles which had been donated to New Port Richey by previous mayors Otto Klinefelter and Joe Burnett respectively (Albin Hansen became ambassador extraordinaire for tourism in 1992). Since its inception, the museum has hosted many events including motorcade displays for visiting high-ranking state dignitaries; demonstrations of military maneuvers; community service projects; and special exhibitions such as “A Time to Remember: America's Veterans Day Parade 1938″ celebrating Flag Day on November 11th each year. There is also an annual garden competition where participants are asked to design a public park or street mural using redcurrant bushes as their backdrop; they are then awarded prizes like trophies and lamps which can be placed inside or outside theuseum entrance along with electric lights that change color when visitors visit during different seasons!

The New Port Richey National Guard was organized on September 3, 1917 and activated on November 15 of that year. The unit served in World War I and II until the end of the Korean War. In 1951, the guard was re-activated as a reserve unit. The present day New Port Richey National Guard is made up of 9 companies, including 1 company stationed at Fort Myers Naval Air Station.
New Port Richey is a city in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 33,643 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The name "New Port Richey" comes from the sound of waves crashing against the shoreline and from the Indian word meaning new or virgin land. In 1821, John Prentice founded what would become New Port Richey on Blackwater Creek as an all-white settlement to replace Fort Myers which had been destroyed by a fire in 1818. The town grew rapidly due to its location on Tampa Bay and its access to navigation channels for shipping. By 1835, about 60% of New Port's population was white American Protestants; African Americans were not allowed until after Reconstruction in 1865. In 1898, a group of businessmen led by Commodore George Dewey sailed their ship "Prophecy" into port and landed around 100 men onshore to start explorations for then-new oil rights near Naples. They named their new city after them - Dewey City - but it didn't take off like they hoped because most people only knew about Tampa Bay and its oil resources. It wasn't until 1925 when General James Beattie persuaded oil companies to invest money in NewPortRichey because he believed that if they did so, it could become one of the leading commercial centres for offshore drilling in Southwest Florida The first store opened in 1927 followed by two hospitals: St Vincent's Hospital (now called University Health System) and Clearwater Regional Medical Center (now known as Memorial Health Partners). Construction started on multiple schools including Pinecrest Elementary School (1927), Gulf View High School (1930), Jefferson Middle School (1931) and Driggs Junior High School(1933). A phosphate mine opened up north of town in 1929; this helped give birth to what is now known as Wolfe’s Mills Economic Development Zone which today has over 120 businesses headquartered there including 23 major banks with over $39 billion in assets! In 1940, Hurricane Floyd caused more than $2 million worth of damage ($ today) to homes and businesses within miles of landfall while also causing extensive flooding along much of South Florida; NewPortRichey responded with emergency response services that included watercraft, helicopters and bulldozers On September 17th 1947 President Harry Truman delivered his famous address “A NEW DAY FOR AMERICA” at Clearwater Naval Air Station which began Operation Crossroads – America’s largest amphibious landing ever made – during which 1,500 Marines disembarked onto beaches near Cape Canaveral Air Force Base resulting in thousands more jobs being created right here at home! And finally just twelve months later we welcomed our newest addition- Our Children’s Harbor Complex! New Port Richey was founded in 1837 by Capt. John Troup and his wife, Fannie. The town became a key commercial center for the area after it was developed on the Gulf Coast of Florida by early pioneers. New Port Richey experienced rapid growth during both World War II and the postwar years as a result of its role as an important military port. Today, New Port Richey is a vibrant community with a rich history that reflects the maritime history of our region. The Town of New Port Richey was first settled by pioneers who arrived in southern Florida in 1837 following the exploration and discovery of new land along the Gulf Coast. The original settlers were farmers, fishermen, and traders who traded goods with Native American groups and other parts of South America. By 1839, many OFA (Oceania Federation) ships had been loaded with supplies destined for Cuba, Venezuela, or Brazil. Captain Troup saw potential in this unique location and decided to establish a permanent settlement to serve those shipping needs. He petitioned for city status from state officials in 1840 and organized a meeting that resulted in incorporation on January 1st of that year under the name “Port Richey” (later changed to “Newport”). The town quickly grew due to its strategic location at the mouth of navigation channel connecting Tampa Bay tothe Atlantic Ocean while also providing access to inland markets. During its early days,Port Richey boasted an impressive population exceeding 100 residents including merchants, sailors, missionaries, mechanics/tailors/furniture dealers etc.. The town prospered because it offered easy access to good transportation facilities as well as ample resources: marshlands on one side of the harbor while rice fields stretched across another; salt water on one sidejunctioned with freshwater rivers on another; timber forests nearby which provided wood products such as cotton ginners' tools; saltpeter production from nearby mines; local shipbuilding industry; blacksmithing; pottery making; cattleraising etc.. With these advantages came challenges but also opportunities including construction of roads (including one running through town), importationof goods needed for local commerce (such as flour from Illinois), establishmentof schools (grades K-8th grade),establishmentofthe post office(1841),andcreationofthe first newspaper(1845).
