Gun stores and businesses didn’t sell other types of firearms until after 1993 when they began to sell rifles and shotguns as well. The original store that selling shotguns and handguns was built on Main Street just north of US-1. It operated from 1912 to 1978 before moving to its present location on Orange Avenue across from City Hall. In 1978, it was purchased by John Sutherlin who continued to operate it until his death in 1992. At John Sutherlin’s death, his son, Rick Sutherlin took over operations until he too passed away in 2006.Rick Sutherlin’s widow, Teri Gates reopened the store under her name in 2007 and currently operates it as a family business with her two daughters working full time inside and outside the store depending on what is going on at home or at work). New Port Richey is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,913 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name New Port Richey comes from the Spanish word for "new" and "richelieu" or "ridge". The first Europeans to visit what is now New Port Richey were French colonists who named itPort Royal in 1625 after they landed on nearby St. Augustine Island. In 1846, American Commodore John F. Smith built a fort here during his attempt to annex Key West into the US Navy as part of itsWar of 1812 campaign against Spain.
