Maitland, Florida is a small town located in Citrus County, Florida. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. Maitland is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1887 by James A. Maitland and his wife Amelia C. Hardesty as a citrus farming and plantation village on the east side of Maitland Lake near present-day Orange City Road. In 1903, James A., Sr., donated land for a public school system and founded the first post office in Maitland with six mailboxes. On July 7, 1907, Wanda Ladd moved to Maitland from Daytona Beach with her husband Vernon Ladd to start their own cotton farm which became one of the most successful cotton farms in Citrus County history until it closed in 1993. In 1961, brothers Buddy and Dick DeVos bought 3/8 mile (1 km) of forested Alligator River property between present-day State Road 207 and Orange Avenue from the heirs of Jens Jensen for $1 million dollars ($ as of 2019). They developed it into what is now known as "Downtown Disney," complete with an amusement park, hotels, restaurants, stores and schools – including Magic Kingdom Park – which opened to guests on December 15th 1966. The city annexed downtown Disney in 1982 through annexation legislation passed by then-Governor Bob Martinez; however, Downtown Disney retains its own governing body called the Downtown Disney Improvement Authority (DIA). On October 28th 1984 Maurice Greene died after a long battle with cancer at age 84 years old at his home on Main Street adjacent to where Stonington's Recreation Center now stands. He had been proprietor since 1978 of Maurice Greene's Floridian Resort & Casino on Apalachicola Bayou just west of Interstate 95E off US highways 41A & 77A near Today's Shopping Mall Drive in Sanford Village

Maitland, Florida is a small town in Hillsborough County,Florida. The population was 3,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Pompano Beach metropolitan area. Maitland was founded on November 1, 1868 by Major General James W. Haley and his wife Ann as a citrus growing village on the Kissimmee River near present day Sanford. The first land grant in what is now Maitland was to Captain John Reid on December 24, 1784. Captain Reid and his family were the first to settle in what is now Maitland and he granted two tracts of land totaling fifteen rods (about 0.4 mile or 0.6 km²) to Jester Orchard Company for "fruit bearing trees." This company was organized by General James Waddell in 1787 when he took command of the Floridas Campaign during the American Revolution. In 1861 Maitland had a population of only seventy people when it became part of Hillsborough County after it was detached from Polk County following Florida’s secession from the United States on January 8, 1861. On February 5th Governor Winthrop Sargent approved an act declaring that all counties within Hillsborough must be divided into two classes according to their numeric size – one with a population over 10,000 and one with less than 10,000 residents Maitland adjoined Clearwater Township which had been created from parts of Tampa and St Petersburg townships on November 3rd 1881 when they were added to Hillsborough County as part of the Jacksonville division established by governor Edwin Jackson pursuant to Act 2nd Session Laws #27 of 1881 In 1911 Anaconda Brewing Company began operations in Maitland brewery\ The Anaconda Brewing Company closed its doors in 1978 but remnants still remain today across US1 between Clearwater Boulevard and I-275 South past State Road 441/US 41A where you can see some large metal drums used for storage while also evidence that there once may have been an office or warehouse located here
