In 1817, the Leesburg Plantation was founded by John and Eliza Lees. The plantation was named for General James Lee who fought in the American Revolution. It remained in the hands of the Lees family until 1951. In 1922, a citrus grove was established on the property. In 1949, electricity first arrived on the property and it became a public Christian school in 1951. The farmhouse which is still used as a home today was built in 1907.
