The United States Navy has a long and proud history in Jupiter, Florida. The city was founded by Spanish settlers in 1763 as part of the colony of Florida and it became an important naval center during the American Revolution. In 1814, the U.S. Congress declared that Jupiter would be the permanent seat of government for all southeastern Florida, and the navy quickly began construction on a series of shipsyard facilities there. The navy also developed a significant military presence in Jacksonville, which served as its easternmost base. Jupiter, Florida is a town in Panhandle County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola–Ft. Walton–Boca Raton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Jupiter were Spanish explorers who named it La Isla de las Manos (the Isle of hands). In 1821 French explorer François Joseph Barthélémy discovered the island and named it Nouvelle Don’tre-de-Jupiter (New Providence of Jupiter). The name was changed to Jupiter in 1828 by Captain James Cook after the planet Jupiter. In 1907 the towns of Neptune and Auburndale merged to form Jupiter village and today's Municipality of Jupiter incorporates that merger into its borders. The first post office was established at Juno on December 15, 1907; it closed July 1, 1958 because of lack of residents. A new post office called Juno became operational on October 15, 1951 when Eastshore Electric Company moved its headquarters from Neptune to new buildings near downtown Pensacola across from Fort Lawlor Park which had been renamed for General John Pemberton during World War II. In 1955 the old courthouse burned down and new construction began; within a few years all but two blocks north of downtown were built up with highrise apartments as well as a large shopping mall area east along SE Greenway Avenue known locally as "Downtown." That development continued until 1978 when another fire destroyed most of that block including much of what is now Downtown Jacksonville Landing Shopping Center also known locally as "Old Town". Post Office Square reopened in 1979 with stately brick Colonial Revival architecture by architects Hirschfeld & Sons Architects Incorporated adjacent to present day Duval Street south side Jacksonville Landing where many large chain stores are located today while most small businesses have since closed or been replaced by convenience stores or garage sales making downtown an almost empty ghost town today compared to what it once was! A new courthouse opened in 1984 following completion of a $30 million project funded by Gulfport/Pensacola Redevelopment Authority with assistance from federal matching funds through Economic Development Administration administered by Department Of Commerce - Federal Interim program under President Ronald Reagan entitled "National Capital Community Revitalization Program" designed to create jobs significant enough to warrant further investment in physical infrastructure throughout metropolitan areas experiencing economic decline caused by aging populations combined with loss or destruction various types commodity storage facilities numerous auto dealerships truck stops service stations popular tourist destinations like Homestead Speedway Race track etc... finally providing hope for revitalization giving life back to what had once been dubbed "Downtown Jacksonville Landing". This led then Governor Jeb Bush To call for an expansion including land zoned for commercial development east across US Highway 90 from current Downtown Jacksonville Landing onto leased property currently used by Army Corps Reserve Command Headquarters Aviation Facilities Storage lot south side Marketplace open air market now home to several restaurants several dozen structures housing various government agencies law enforcement barracks barracks etc... providing some additional retail / commercial space now centralizing around original Plaza square

Jupiter, Florida is a small town in Hillsborough County, Florida. The population was 2,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area and is located on the Whirlpool River. The town was founded in 1881 by John A. Armstrong as Jupiter Station on what is now Clearwater Bayou. In 1912 it became a post office with the name "Jupiter." It was changed to "Jupiter" in 1925 when it incorporated as a municipality. The town has had several incarnations since its founding including Armstrong's Ranch (now called Mastin Lakes), Jupiter Landing, Jupiter Plantation, and most recently Jupiter Place. The community grew rapidly during World War II thanks to military construction nearby such as Fort Snelling and Fort Brooke which housed 631 enlisted soldiers and their families during the war. After the war ended, the town declined until it regained some of its former popularity during the late 1990s through revitalization efforts led by then-Mayor Bill O'Connell and then-City Manager Rick Ladd. In recent years there has been discussion about reviving downtown Jacksonville as an urban center for Jovellon Township residents who are unable or unwilling to commute to Tampa or St Petersburg due to their jobs in those cities or because they enjoy more rural lifestyle behaviors here such as hunting and fishing within easy driving distance of their homes rather than downtown Jacksonville where most people live anyway. There are also plans for developing land around Interstate 4A east of Jupiter into an enlarged industrial park that could house up to 10 million square feet of business space
