The area that now makes up Jupiter was first settled in 1836 by Irish immigrants who named it after Jupiter, one of their own stars. In 1925 businessman Harry Waley bought land west of downtown for what would become known as Palm Beach Gardens - now part of West Palm Beach - which he renamed Jupiter Park after his home state of Ohio too. In 1960s post-apocalyptic TV series "The Walking Dead" featured a scene where survivors are being transported down a road deep into hell with signs reading "Jupiter – Evergreen Hills". This inspired developers to start developing properties near JRF station in nearby Fort Myers about 7 miles away from where "The Walking Dead" took place; this led to the current day name for the area: "Evergreen Hills".
