Hialeah Gardens, Florida is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 2,951 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality in Miami-Dade County after Coral Gables and is home to both the Dolphins football team and the Hialeah Bowl college football game which has become one of the largest sporting events in South Florida. The city also contains several shopping malls, including One World Trade Center and Aventura Mall. The area now known as Hialeah was first inhabited by different cultures of Native Americans before being purchased by Spanish colonists in 1565. In 1836, Hialeah became part of Florida as part of Mexico's Anahuac province following its sale to Spain via King Carlos III. After Mexican independence from Spain was granted in 1821, it passed into United States ownership as part of Coahuila y Tejas under President James K. Polk during his administration. However, it reverted back to Mexican control when France acquired it during their war with Mexico following Mexican withdrawal from that country. With American purchase of what became Tampa Bay in 1814 and annexation of Coahuila y Tejas by Seminole Nation Tribal Council on February 17th, 1835 (the same day as Tampa), Hialeah became part of Hillsborough County within Florida Territory due to its strategic location between Tampa and St Petersburg along US1/US 19 corridor; this alignment remains unchanged today despite major expansions within Hillsborough County over time including Pinellas Park (opened in 1956) just east of I-275/SR 715 interchange becoming an urban center adjacent to HIALEAH PARK while Clearwater Peninsula annexed by Hillsborough County only happened about thirty years later making for a rather confusing demographic reality given there are now two townships - Clearwater Beach Borough (incorporated on December 3rd 1959) just northeast OF SR 715 exit off I-275/SR 715 near Gulfport Naval Shipyard while neighboring Port Everglades Borough incorporation took place approximately 1 km north east OF SR 715 exit off I-275/SR 715 near Punta Gorda Harbor). As such there have been various attempts over time to reestablish contact or consolidate these communities resulting in various name changes ex: "Hillsborough Township", "Clearwater Beach Borough", "Port Everglades Borough" etc.; however all efforts have ultimately failed due eitherto lack of interest or new municipal boundaries established since 1958 with little continuity or cohesion among residents across municipalities even though many residents still call themselves " Hogsett ", "Wright" or simply " citizens ". Consequently this paper will use the more current name - Hialeah Gardens - consistent with previous research done herein including articles discussing history pertaining thereto published online atHistoricMiamiDade .com . According to the2010 US Census data,[1]2]the population living within incorporated areas is 83% Hispanic[3],with African Americans comprising 12%[4]; however unincorporated areas include a much larger percentage (>30%) black residents who live primarily below poverty lines[5]. This racial diversity can be observed throughout much of South Miami-Dade county where Hispanics make up almost 60%of all inhabitants while AfricanAmericans make up minorities totaling 11%.
