It moved to its current location in 1951. The museum is open to the public from 9am-4pm Tuesdays through Saturdays and 10am-2pm on Sundays. The museum’s collection includes uniforms and other items worn by Navy sailors and their families during World War II and the Korean War. In addition, there are artifacts from various vessels that served in both wars. Among these is an USS Constitution (1813) that was donated by Commodore John Latham Post of Jacksonville, Florida in 1957. Greenacres is a small town in the state of Florida, United States. The population was 2,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named after Greenacres Plantation, which was once located on what is now Greenacres Boulevard. The original owner of Greenacres plantation was Captain James A. Haley, who also owned nearby SpringHill Plantation and Haley's Grove near Sanford. In 1824, Captain Haley sold his plantation to Myron Hogg for $1,000+. Captain James A. Haley's grandson, Colonel John Crain Haley II (1821-1894), served as Governor of Florida from 1889 to 1893 and as U.S. minister to Spain from 1892 to 1896; he also served as lieutenant governor from 1886 to 1888 and from 1890 until his death in office at the age of 63 years old.. Colonel John Crain Haley II left two sons: Lieutenant Colonel Myron Crain Haley III (1872-1946) and Judge Royce Lyle Cameron (1912-1992). Lt Col Myron Crain Haley III served as President and CEO of Walt Disney World Resorts since 2002; Judge Royce Lyle Cameron became a general contractor with over 50 years experience including 25 years with KBR Corporation before that.. A primary economic activity in Greenacres for many years has been agriculture; however this has decreased due to changes in technology that have led to increased production elsewhere.. There are still some crops grown there but they are less important than when they were first cultivated because more modern methods have been developed for producing these crops.. Greenacres is a town in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1892 by J.C. Green and his wife Emma Golding as a small farming community on the east side of Sarasota Bay. In 1932, it became part of the new city of Sarasota. The name "Greenacres" comes from an old Indian word meaning "place where there is no water." The first white settlers in what would become Greenacres were J.C. Green and his family who arrived in 1892 from Kentucky on horseback when the bay was still swampy and filled with trees that could not be concessioned to farmers until after phosphate deposits were discovered nearby (the Pinellas Purchase). When they began to clear land for their farmstead they found that there was already an area of marshland extending into Sarasota Bay known as Rosedale which had been settled by Native Americans during the time of Captain John Smith's expedition in 1767/68 including Potawatomi Chief Tocopheaga who built a fortification here around 1774-75 using palmetto logs and tree trunk trunks called udder pithches which he named Fort Tocopheaga after himself and his son Potawatomi Umpire James Tocopheraga). It took another two decades for further development to take place with many buildings being constructed such as: the original courthouse (1896), jail (1900), post office (1902), schoolhouse (1905) and first Baptist church built oncurrent site of present day Walmart Supercenter building (1927). A streetcar line running through downtown Sarasota started service in 1901 providing transportation for people living within easy walking distance of either commercial or institutional buildings along State Road 10B between Old Town Square & First Church Street leading south to Grady Landing before terminating at Third Street north of Central Park where passengers boarded buses returning home each evening; today this remains one block south of current day Walmart Supercenter lot line continuing southwest past current site
