Greenacres, Florida is located in Marion County, Florida. The population was 9,547 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando Metropolitan Statistical Area. The land that makes up Greenacres was first settled in 1848 by English farmers who named it "Greenacres." The name came from a small stream called "Greenscough" which ran through the area. In 1855, a post office was established at Greenacres and remained in operation until 1907. In 1865, Edwin Ladd opened a farm on what is now incorporated as North Orange Avenue close to what is now American Legion Park. He raised cotton and sold it to others in the area. When he died in1872, his son John took over the farm and continued to grow corn and sell it to others until his death in 1888. From 1888-1906, Charles Waring operated an ice cream parlor at 7th Street and Indian Creek Road near present-day Central Catholic High School before moving to Greenacres and starting Waring's Dairy there in 1906. In 1921, Rufus Fenton bought 1/4 acre of land adjacent to present day US 66 east ofpresent day US 21 for $1 cash plus 10 cents per bushel of corn he grown on his property Thereafter Fenton ran a feed mill on this property doing business as "Fenton's Feed Mill." He also operated a garage on this lot until 1951 when he built his home on this site becoming known as "The Fenton House." Mr Fenton passed away in 1984 leaving behind 2 daughters (Patty & Kathy)and 3 sons (Bobbie & Donny). His wife Patty continued operations of the house until her passing also in 1984 leaving behind 5 children (Tommy Jr., Maura Jean (Quesada), Jeffery Wayne (Linda), Kristin Lynn(Mikaela)), 4 grandchildren (Joey Kevin(Haley Elizabeth), Wyatt Christopher(Emily Jane)) & one great grandchild (#7 Emma Anna Mikaela Quesada). After their mothers passing they all moved into their parents home with 3 exceptions: Tommy Jr.,Haley Elizabeth;Jeffery Wayne;Kristin Lynn; Emma Anna Mikaela Quesada . In 2002 they started purchasing additional acres adjoining their parents' home making it 8 acres total . later that year they Expansion Plans were filed with Federal Housing Authority creating 108 condominiums called ""Marion Oaks"" complex Today residents include many retirees from Central Florida such as teachers, dentists etc...It has been said that living downtown gives you little town feel but if you live out back you havecountry view

Greenacres, Florida was once a part of the Jacksonville-St. Augustine area. It is now a small town located in Clay County, Florida. The first permanent settler in Greenacres was Colonel John Smith who arrived in 1786. He named the land for his home county of Ireland, England. Greenacres had its start as a small farming community and one of the most important airfields in Southwest Florida during World War II. The first post office was established at Greenacres on November 10, 1907. At that time, it was called Stonington and served only local residents. On December 3rd, 1907, Greenacres became the townsite for Jacksonville when both communities were merged into one under the name Jacksonville-Stonington-Greenacre. In 1916, when Jacksonville annexed Clay County to form new state boundaries, Greenacres became part of Clay County under Jackson County jurisdiction and later againJacksonville annexing Stonington to form new state boundaries on January 1st 1927 which made it an official town within Clay County limits and also created boundary problems with neighboring towns such as West Palm Beach and Port Leon which are included withinJacksonville but not within Stonington or Clay Counties limits
