Fort Walton Beach is a town in Florida, United States. The population was 8,596 at the 2000 census. It is the most populous community in Baldwin County and one of the fastest-growing areas in Florida. Fort Walton Beach became a town on November 2,1966, when it amalgamated with neighbouring communities of Maitland and Winter Garden to form what is now called Baldwin County. The first coffee beans were grown in this area by Spanish settlers in the early 18th century. Coffee beans were brought back to Spain as part of treasure trove from America during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). Coffee beans were used for brewing coffee until about 1890 when water supplies improved and roasting methods changed. During World War II, many military personnel stationed at Fort Walton Beach benefited from local production of Javits coffees. This resulted in the nickname "coffee capital of America". After the war ended, many people left Fort Walton Beach for better jobs or other places within Florida; however, some decided to stay because they enjoyed living near good coffee shops and excellent food options. In 1984, Bob Hope moved his business headquarters from Hollywood to Ft Walton Beach after purchasing property there adjoining his old home on Third Street which he used as office space for his entertainment company and hotel properties while he was still alive and active. At that time Ft Walton Beach had only around 1,000 residents but now has over 10 thousand residents who call it their home! In 2003 Ft Walton Beachers created an economic development arm - Wakulla Chamber of Commerce - which engages businesses throughout Baldwin County including restaurant chains such as KFC and Pizza Hut as well as retailers such as Meijer, Safeway stores and more than 20 small businesses representing various sectors including healthcare services companies like Methodist Health System/Shark Bay Medical Center/Westshore Memorial HospitalMultiplex Shopping Center/....Cooperation between government agencies has been key to success with Wakulla Chamber being especially instrumental in developing joint initiatives with both state legislatorswoman Angie Everett (R)and state senator Joe Negron (D). These partnerships have led to major successes such as expanding job opportunities through new governmental contracts etc., increasing access to affordable housing through stricter zoning laws etc….This gives citizens control over their own lives & economy directly impacting their quality of life

In 1912, Panama City merged with Jacksonville to form Everglades City. In 1928, the United States acquired all of Florida from Spain for $10 million. As part of this deal, Ft. Walton Beach was transferred to the United States government and renamed Fort Walton Beach State Park. The park has been under US control since then and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Florida.
Fort Walton Beach was founded in 1837 by Major Isaac Asbury and his wife, Mary. The Asburys were the first white people to live in this area. They built a wooden fort to protect their land from Seminole raiders. In 1840, they bought land from the Seminoles and built a larger fort which became known as Fort Walton Beach. The Asbury family sold the fort to the United States Government in 1848 for $60,000. The fort was used as a prison from 1851-1868. It was later renamed Fort Walton Beach National Monument in 1909. In 1938, Fort Walton Beach became part of Florida and it has remained that way ever since.
